The Smith & Wesson M&P 45 Shield Performance Center is a stellar carry gun that doesn’t get nearly enough props.
If you are interested in using a .45 ACP gun for your everyday carry, this gun fits the bill. It’s a single-stack, striker-fired polymer pistol designed to withstand daily carry and frequent use, and it gets the job done.
The gun ships with one 6-round magazine and one 7-round magazine, so capacity is a bit limited, but it has the benefit of increased concealability.
We like the Performance Center model, which includes a 3.3-inch ported barrel and ported slide, and a Performance Center-tuned action.
You also get upgraded sights in the form of a green fiber optic front and a red fiber optic rear. The standard aggressive grip texture is present, which ensures that you have positive control regardless of how sweaty or wet your hands get (trust us, it is hot here).

We love the original Sig P220, but their Legion version is our pick.
It’s a good-looking gun thanks to its Cerakote Elite Legion Gray-finished slide and frame, and black G10 grips.
There’s more to the Legion line than looking pretty, though. The P220 Legion’s greatest feature just might be its P-SAIT trigger — smooth and consistent, crisp break, short reset.
The P220 Legion is hammer-fired and is available in an SAO model with a thumb safety and a DA/SA version without a safety. We prefer the DA/SA version as it offers a bit more flexibility over a 1911.
The X-RAY tritium night sights are fantastic, and the trigger undercut and extended beavertail offer improved ergonomics over the base model. Both iron sight-only and optics-ready versions are available.
Despite still only having an 8+1 capacity, the P220 is still a very large gun at 7.7 inches overall length and 30.4 ounces. However, the size and weight really help soak up a lot of the recoil that .45 ACP has.

Walther manufactures some stellar handguns, and the PPQ 45 is among the models we favor. It may not have the aesthetic appeal of guns like the Legion, but man, does it run!
This is a 12+1 capacity double-stack gun that is between full-size and compact in size, leaning more towards the full-size category.
The grip is contoured extremely well for a very comfortable grip, the controls are large and easy to reach, and the trigger is amazing — breaking cleanly at around 4-4.5 pounds with a reset of only 1/10 of an inch!
An ambidextrous slide release, reversible magazine release, and interchangeable backstraps ensure that this gun is lefty-friendly.

To no one’s surprise, our next entry is the .45 ACP Glock 21. Living up the the Glock reputation, the Glock 21 is a true workhouse in every sense of the word.
The G21 is a full-size, striker-fired, double-stack handgun with a 13+1 capacity.
Everything here is pretty standard Glock fare, including interchangeable backstraps, a reversible magazine release, and a well-textured frame.
The newer Gen 5 versions feature an improved trigger, front slide serrations, an ambi slide lock, and the Glock Marksman Barrel for enhanced accuracy.
Although they improved the trigger over the previous generations, plenty of people, us included, still don’t love it. But the good news is that you can easily go wild on aftermarket parts due to Glock’s popularity.
We’ve used and abused various Glocks here at PPT over the years, and they keep going. If you want a .45 ACP where reliability is your primary concern, the G21 has your back.

Best of all, the FNX-45 shoots like a dream. Seriously, it feels better in the hand than it looks and also does a great job of delivering a pleasant recoil impulse. It is also fully ambidextrous, so lefties rejoice!
The biggest drawback, in our opinion, is the trigger. It’s not as smooth as the other DA/SA guns on the list, but it isn’t bad by any stretch.

Few guns can go toe to toe with Glock for pure reliability, but the HK USP is definitely one of them.
The HK USP 45 Tactical is our favorite pick among the USP lineup for people who are looking for an all-purpose .45 ACP gun that is DA/SA.
Wyatt loves his USP 45 and Mark 23 dearly but relents that the 45 Tactical is the best of both worlds. You get some of the upgrades of the Mark 23 without the monstrous size and massive hit to your wallet.
The 45 tactical offers a threaded, o-ring-sealed, polygonal bore barrel that is wickedly precise. If you do your part, you’ll get your sub-2-inch groups at 25 yards.
The trigger has been upgraded to the match-grade version with an adjustable trigger stop, and the trigger guard is oversized to facilitate use with gloves.
A classic HK-style ambidextrous paddle magazine release is present, and the slide release is very large and easy to actuate as well.
We absolutely love the left-side combination decocker/safety lever. Seriously, it may be the most simple and elegant implementation of a combo-lever that we have ever used.
This model also features suppressor-height sights, with the rear being fully adjustable for both windage and elevation.
While the gun does lack a standard accessory rail and the overall design is a little dated, the pure performance and reliability more than make up for it, assuming you can handle HK’s price tag.

Fans of CZ may have noticed the absence of the CZ 97 from this list.
Sadly, it was discontinued in early 2022, leaving a hole in that small market niche of double-stack, metal-framed .45 ACP guns that aren’t 1911/2011s.
Luckily, the SAR K2 has been flying under the radar and is still around — and dare I say, does it better than the CZ 97?
The K2 uses the classic CZ slide-in-frame design and is very reminiscent of the CZ 75 and 97 series both in looks and function.
But don’t be fooled, the K2 has some nifty tricks up its sleeve to make it more than a cheap clone. Namely, it has a whopping 14+1 capacity, far more than the CZ 97’s 10-round capacity.
It also has a nice DA/SA trigger with a relatively smooth DA pull and feels good in single action. A 4.7-inch barrel graces the standard full-size model (4.2 inches for the compact), and the gun also comes with a fully adjustable rear sight and a Picatinny accessory rail.
The best part? It is a couple of hundred bucks cheaper than the CZ was, making it a great value buy for those looking for a high-capacity, all-steel .45 ACP.
How to Choose a .45 ACP Pistol
The world of non-1911 .45 ACP pistols is actually a pretty varied one. There are quite a few different pistols that are aimed at different target markets.

First things first, decide what the mission of the gun is. Are you looking for something you can concealed carry on a regular basis? Do you want a fun range toy that is an absolute tack driver? Is the gun going to be used for home defense? Or maybe you want something that can flex into all of those roles.
After you have decided what you want the gun to do, the next thing to consider is features. Looking at things like hammer-fired DA/SA versus striker-fired action, red dot mounting capability, magazine capacity, threaded barrels, etc., should help narrow your choice down even more.
Once you find a gun that fits the bill for the mission and also has the features you want, the next thing is trying to see if the gun fits your hand. Everyone’s hand is a bit different, so going to local gun stores or ranges to either test or at least handle the gun is always a good idea if you are able to do so.
FAQs
Are compact handguns better for concealed carry?
Compacts guns are easier to conceal by nature. But keep in mind that hot .45 ACP ammo can result in stout recoil in platforms that are smaller and lighter.
What size handgun is a compact?
A compact is smaller than a fullsize but larger than a subcompact or microcompact. They mostly come with barrels in the 3.5-inch to 4-inch range.
Is all .45 ACP ammo subsonic?
The standard 230 grain .45 ACP loading is inherently subsonic, and majority of factory ammo is as well. However, some +P and lighter loadings can reach supersonic velocities.
Is .45 ACP stronger than 9mm?
Both can be very close in foot-pounds energy, depending on the specific loading, and wounding channels in ballistic gel are very similar.
Does .45 ACP have alot of recoil?
While .45 ACP typically has more recoil than 9mm or .40 S&W due to the larger bullet, many guns chambered in .45 ACP are heavier or feature different recoil springs to help alleviate recoil. This varies from gun to gun.

Have and love the XDM .45 compact but looking at a Bersa TPR 45c. I hear It's a very popular all metal pistol throughout Central and South American military and police forces. Also in the 4 to 500 dollar range.
I might be a bit biased because I own one, but I think the HK45 deserves a place on this list.

I have 3 .45 now: Baby Desert Eagle gen 1, Springfield 1911, and a Walther PPQ M2 .45.
The Walther is my hands down favorite, and it is my favorite ccw. The trigger is tops, and it fits my hand better than any other platform.

I regret not getting the CZ 97B when I had the chance.
David, I feel you. The going market rate of $1000-1200 is just too steep for me when the SAR K2 is out there for half the price. I really regret not getting one of the CZ Custom 97s in 10mm.
Options are frequently limited here in California. I walked out 30 days later with a CZ 75B SA in .40S&W. It's strictly for this old guy to use for home defense.
I carry (depending on occasion, among other calibers) an early G21 or G30, no problems… of course sometimes I carry a S&W model 1917. It all comes down to individual preference and more importantly, individual proficiency. Good article as always!

You have a nice list of good firearms, however I have problems with two in the list. First: the Glock 21 is stupid big. You mention 'comfort', yet it fits very few hands. Comfort isn't the right word it's about 'fit'. You rightly describe it as ugly, ok, my word, not yours, but you danced around that in a polite manner. Second: You have, and I can't even say the name because I just can't say it out loud as 'honorable mention'. In your defense, you really said it's only attribute is it's crazy low price. It's inexpensive for a very good reason...

The XDM Elite in 45 Auto was my fourth XD in the 45 Auto caliber. I carried the XD full size with the compact in a BUG (back up gun) carrier on my vest. The XDM Elite is the best iteration of the Springfield Armory yet. My last assignment was in the firearms laboratory where firearms used in the commission of a crime were test fired. For comparison purposes we had an extensive "library" of firearms. Having test fired each of the listed firearms side by side with the XDs, I would not give up my Springfield to any of them. Color me biased! Interestingly enough, the only hit Points that came into the lab were from the gang bangers. No self respecting gangster, though, would steal one.

I'm happy with my XD Mod2 which is pre XDM Elite and before optics What nice is you can also use the full size double stack mags which boosts the capacity even higher. Also carry the XD Service 4" which uses the full size mags and nice balance. I had an HK USP45 and sold it didn't handle as well as the XD Service. Home defense is still the Combat Commander 70 series with Crimson Trace laser grips. Interesting article. They just had a sig mobile range at a store, they tried to get me to try out some Sigs asked why I'm never going to spend that kind of money on a handgun. They weren't impressed, but it's the truth I pick up my Colt or my Springfield I know where stuff is going down range. Wife carries a Hellcat w/optics.

I've got a Sig P220 compact and upgraded to the Sig Short Reset Tigger kit, and a Grayguns flat straight adjustable trigger and Trijicon night sights. The reset is great half of what the original reset was.
I own a Beretta PX4 Storm chambered in. 45 ACP and thoroughly enjoy shooting it. Recoil is manageable thanks to a rotating barrel design, and this 10-round DA/SA pistol with decocker can be customized with parts from Beretta as well as noted aftermarket suppliers. The pistol gets great video reviews. It is a larger piece, but replaceable grips make it easy to handle. Maybe include this nice pistol from a reputable maker in your next roundup?
Awsome article, as expected. One to add to the list: The FN 545 Tactical. I recently purchased one over the FNX 45 Tactical, bc of the better, in my opinion, ergonomics. It feels great in my hand. It shoots really softly, has 18 rounds in the mag and a really good factory trigger. Plus you have the threaded barrel and nice suppressor height sights. Finally, the msrp is a few hundred less than the FNX 45 Tactical. Newer doesn't always mean better. In this case, for me, it is. What do you say to a comparison of the two by the PewPew team?
I know it’s not popular but the Ruger American Pistol is a fantastic 45. I got a great price on one a few years ago and liked it so much I sold my HK USP. The trigger is much nicer, tear down is quick and simple, and it’s a modular design. The gun has been absolutely reliable and the build quality is very high. The worst thing I can say about it is that the slide is not cut for optics (it came out before that was really a thing) and the grip could use a bit more traction (I added grip tape). The magazines are also of excellent quality. Really not sure why it didn’t catch on
The Glock 21 is not reliable. They are known for weak ejection and poor extraction. I have one to sell.
The Hi-Point is fun and very soft shooting and when we take it to the range all the cool kids wanna shoot it. So there ya go.

For the love of God, lose the flashlights, red dot sights, suppressors, bayonets, and anything else one could conceivably attach to it. It's a self-defense weapon. Learn to use real sights, in daylight or dark. (OK, I'll give you tritium night sights.) It isn't brain surgery.

You want to blind an intruder? Consider bolting a can of bear spray on your (fill in the blank) with an activation switch under your armpit. LEOs were once taught to hold a MagLite and use their sidearms at the same time, but it won't work for someone who can't walk and chew tobacco simultaneously, much less for those "I go to the range once a year to hone my shooting skills" folks. Would that describe you by any slim chance?
I have the JHP .45 High Point and yes it's crazy ugly. That said, this other than a boat anchor, is a house gun, ready to employ and make Bad Guy wish he chose a better employment. With 240 gr Ball it will stop any thing man or beast. Yeah only its mother could love its looks but as for going BANG with anything I feed it I'll take the jokes and jabs. SGT(ret.) US Army
While an enjoyable read, there are several possible honorable mention candidates. Yes they cost more than $200, but please,a high point, I've shot them. I'd rather have a Tarus G2 BY FAR, CLOSE to same $$$$. Much better option.

The Beretta Cougar is excellent, and the Beretta PX4 Storm is even better!
As someone already stated the P220 DA/SA does NOT have a safety the SAO (Single Action Only) version does. The heavier weight of the double action pull of the DA/SA variant serves to protect against inadvertant discharge.
My P220 has no external safety. It does have a decocker.
My favorites pistol to shoot is the FNX 45, especially for high round count classes (500+). It’s smoother than whipped garlic butter in my opinion. Most of my Sig or HK 9mm’s feel snappy in my hands by the end of a long range day, but higher grains than 115 help.
I’ve used my FNX-45 from CPL renewals to level four training without any hiccups except a rare failure to lock back when empty.
I liked it so much I bought the FNX 45 Tactical last year for home defense with a red dot. Unfortunately I’m still waiting for my pistol cal suppressor to clear purgatory.
My winter gloves are men’s large but my fingers are short; the FNX 45 is still comfortable to trigger a first shot. Sorry, but for me this is an amazingly smooth shooting pistol with any standard ammo like Federal or Winchester. I’d rather shoot this 45 than most of my 9mm’s.

I do realize that some prefer something other than a 1911, though it's beyond me to know why. I do like the H&K, as I have one in my meager collection.
But, for those in the market to pick up a .45acp, do yourself a favor and try out a 1911 too. It just might change your mind.

I own — and love — a CZ 97BD (with the de-cocking lever and no external safety), but I do not mourn it’s passing. Although I also own several revolvers and striker-fired pistols, the all-metal, DA/SA semi-autos are what I grew up shooting. The CZ 97 shoots SO smooth, but is just too big and heavy to carry around on a regular basis. My new, full-size .45 is the Heckler & Koch HK45 with LEM trigger. I ordered the LEM version based upon reviews only, but I’m glad I did. It’s my — notice I didn’t say “the, “ because the LEM trigger is a personal preference — hammer-fired semi-auto for the 21st century. The CZ still makes it into my carry rotation once in a while, but usually in a shoulder holster with 2-3 full mags on my strong side for balance, or in a chest rig when I am hiking.

H&K born and raised, cut my teeth as a infant on the .45 acp's- USP, USP-C, .45 TAC. Matk23's in which yes I absolutely do fire and use except 1 I have that's all purdy n new... other than that I dearly love my Springfield XDm 4.5 .45acp. All that apply have threaded barrels and you can betchur butt they're absolutely no stranger to having Cans attached on the ends of them. Although I have literally in the high 30 range of .45 acp pistols Colts and Springfields I absolutely adore but my love probably to the abundance of H&K firearms from all of the soprt or hunting rifles such as HK m.940 cal. 30.06 down to .22 mag and .22 cal. Conversion kits for my .223. Then the real workhorse(s) HK 91's and newer G3's , and the caviar of the PDW's -there's not much Heckler & Koch offers my dear and Bad Ass Father didn't have and see that I had as well. I take none of that for granted and am very humble and appreciative to have some of the absolute best firearms for about everything imaginable, I've been very blessed. Just giving props to my peeps at H&K and especially to the stellar firearms manufactured by Hecler & Koch.

I have shot the Glock 21 45 and it's a piece of crap not even 50 rounds through it and halfway through the 50 rounds and jams my best gun was Walter PPQ m2 45 I put 3,000 rounds through mine no incidents whatsoever the best shooting handgun that I've ever shot and I would definitely recommend that to anybody than a Glock
I have two Glock Mod 30's, have shot one a lot with no issues, and it is very accurate and dependable. Smaller, easier to conceal, fits my small hands well.
Good info. I'd just like to emphasize what was mentioned about trying to git yer mitts on different pistols before buying. I have a G2 Glock 21, and while it's my usual H.D. choice, it's a huge brick that I rarely carry. My hands fall right in the middle of "medium" on a sizing guide, and with a normal grab, my thumb doesn't reach to my middle finger and my pointer just barely gets to the side of the trigger. If I had a railed version any activation of a light/laser would have to be via the weak hand. As it is I have to shift it around to reach stuff, but with 13 fo-fi's on tap I probably won't have to reload in a fight.
Then move into the newer G41. The grip is much narrower and trigger on a Gen 4 is better than the 2. I could not believe that at 18 yds I was hitting beer cans with regularity. I got the 41 as it has mag compatibility with my CMMG Banshee/Mk Guard 45 for camping/hiking. You bump up capacity to 17 with Taran baseplates and can add lights and RDS too. What I like about the FNX T is the threaded barrel, night sights and an option to use an 18 rd mag if your state allows it.
When you say G41, do you mean the Glock 41 or do you mean G4 as in Gen 4? Going to a bigger gun seems a strange way to increase ease of carry. In any case, since that post I found a used Gen 4 Glock 20 for ~$350 which is my new "Maybe should bring a bit more than the usual pocket gun" carry piece. The Olight Baldr Mini ($90 on sale) genius mount brings the switch back far enough to be useful, but I plan to whittle down the front of the trigger guard for an extra smidge. The 21 is still my HD gun, a lil' quieter with the blast deflector (suppressor some day...) and CTC laser. I live alone and don't have friendly unexpected visitors so a handheld light is fine.
Glock Mod. 41 Gen 4. The grip size is smaller than the 21, the slide is narrower and actually fits my G23 open bottom holster. It’s not smaller than the 21 in slide length by an inch. Ditch the hand held light for a frame mounted one-it’s the 21st century. I started using a frame mounted light (on the HK USP45)in ‘98 when a ton of cops were using the left hand for the Surefire.

I own an H&k p9s 9mm LNIB. It is amazingly accurate! I have the original box, manual, test target, original magazines plus seven additional magazines. Best of all, I bought at a great price! I highly recommend one in 9mm and or .45 ACP.
My CZ 97BD is the best gun I have for competition. I often say that "it is more accurate than I know how to shoot". In IDPA I have scored a few zero down matches with this gun even though I normally shoot an CZ SP-01 in 9mm in competition but with less success than the .45.
Absolutely. First time I shot mine, I smiled wide in surprise. From then on, I was laughing. What a pleasure! My wife was a little bit nervous to try the iconic 45 ACP. Same reaction: first shot, she was smiling. By the end of the magazine, she wouldn't hand it back. She loves it. So easy to control! Definitely helps with aiming in slow fire. *Every* gun is more accurate than the shooter. That said, this gun is helping you shoot better.

The FNX 45 Tac is an incredible gun. I personally have zero issues with it other than sheer size. But I’m getting 15+1 45 acp so size come with the territory. I wouldn’t honestly take it over most other handguns. Especially in a boogalo/ zombie apocalypse/ SHTF scenario. It’s so sturdy I’d use it for a club after I ran out of ammo. The only pistol I like more is my walther PPQ in 9mm. Otherwise that 45 Tac is my favorite pistol. Great gun.
I carried a Glock 21 on patrol for many years and loved it. Reliable and quite accurate. All the other guys were carrying 9’s and then the .40 but I stayed with the .45. Reluctantly made the switch for a rail when lights were the thing. Still miss the mag light/ impact weapon. Lol. Still have the Glock and enjoy shooting it from time to time. Although the Sig is a little more accurate I think you would be hard pressed to find anything more reliable than Glock on your list.

Para Ordinance made one exactly as you described. Like their Warthog series but double action. I have a Stainless Warthog never had a malfunction so far.
Prior to transitioning to an HK USP45, I carried and competed with a P13 in 1994 similar to the FBI HRT model. In the years I had it I could not make it 99% reliable-maybe 85% with tune ups from PisCo in Kali and Cylinder & Slide in Neb. I gave up and sold it. The USP was ultimately reliable even with modified 17 round mags, I’m hoping the FNX does the same.
BTW, Johnny needs to do more videos. He's a hoot. Makes me miss Appalachia where I used to live.

Drop the HiPoint for a Glock 30. It's a compact and one of the best balanced guns I have shot. Easy to conceal with a 3.76 inch barrel. Recoil isn't really much more than my Glock 19.
Could not even dream of a 45 acp coming out of anything other than a 1911. If you shoot one you will understand.

Actually, the 10mm is much more powerful than the .45 ACP and due to the smaller dimensions the pistol can actually hold more rounds than a .45 ACP.

While not promoted, the Sig P320 in .45 still is a great pistol; I've got mine running a Deltapoint Pro red dot, and it is a champ. Still pressing companies to make an updated grip profile. I have a couple P320's in 9mm, but still love my original .45 version!
It is a shame Sig retired the P320 45ACP. I have the compact frame which offers a great balance between beast power and concealability.
Your question is: What did you chose? Simple, Glock G21 (Home defense), G30 (EDC), and G36 (Car glove compartment). I am 82 years young and still shoot fist sized groups with all three at 7 yards (This is the longest shot line in my house). At twenty five yards. I can put a whole magazine (13+1) in the black. First gun I ever shot was a Colt M1911A sixty years ago. .45 was good then and it still is!
Just be aware of a few things. HK, whether or not they admit it, has some soft frame issues on their newer 45's such as the HK45 and HK45c. They are not made in Germany, have a P stamped on the side of the frame and over time and use the magazines do not drop free. Maybe that's an issue to you, maybe not but to some it is, like me. Also the FNX is a very big pistol supporting a 15 round magazine in free states. They have had soft frame issues on this line and some of their 9mm's too. HK and FN of USA are not the same as HK and FN of Germany and Belgium respectively.
Good recommendations, all solid guns. I'm old school preferring the DA/SA metal frame guns, so I own most of the classic German-made SIG's. The new Legion models only have a slightly better trigger at a vastly increased cost. I've read dozens of 9mm vs .45ACP over the years and it boils down to common sense. I can shoot my P226 faster and more comfortably, while the P220 stills hits the hardest. Magazine capacity is overrated and only law enforcement and the military need 10+ capacity, but if the extra rounds make you sleep better, more is better than less. Bottom line is to research the market and buy what you are most familiar and comfortable with. Put hundreds of rounds through your defense gun and know it well if you want it to save your life one day.
I hurt every time I read articles of this nature as they always seem to have an HK USP 45 to rub in my face. I traded mine for an SVI/custom topped with Colt's Series 80 Gold Cup National Match and a monstrous Aimpoint Red Dot on the top floor of that building of a 45 race gun. Regret Regret Regret!
USP 45 Tactical with 10 extended mags, New barrel, springs, Cmore red dot, very nice trigger work by my favorite gunsmith who had a lot of experience with the USP 45 series triggers. My favorite oversized ambi mag release that I favor above ALL other guns, period. (Reason? my trigger finger sliding off the trigger and grazing the mag release in a split second sweep saving precious time). And a nice full Cerakote job protecting the already durable coat they come with but I had to make it look oh so cool! (about 3k paid into that gun after the cost of the gun!). I am no Master or G-Master and had no biz thinking Strayer Voigt would turn me into one, lol. Sadly I cry out in my sleep for her.... my HK USP 45. Think I'll start over and do it again. The FN FNX 45 is truly a "looker" though and if the trigger can be overcome with some tweaking it may be something to consider over the USP because of the fact that ANYTHING HK after the fact is expensive!

Years ago, I picked up a lightly used Para-Ordnance P14 Limited, a double stack single action based on the 1911.
It is a great shooter, and the wife loved it as much as I. She was shooting IPSC with a Colt Series 80 Govt model, and wanted to move up to something better.
Without telling her, I gave her my P14 for her birthday. She was all excited, and immediately headed to the backyard to try it out.
She shot about 10 rounds, and turned to me with tears in her eyes. “It doesn’t shoot nearly as well as yours…”.
I had to fight to keep from laughing, but managed to just say “Keep shooting it, sweetie, you’ll get used to it.”
And in a couple more mags, she was smiling again.
I told her the truth a few years later. I got slapped, but at least I didn’t get shot!

You guys missed the SAR K2 45... If you like the CZ-97B, you'll like the K2. 14+1, CZ based platform. Several hundred dollars less than the CZ. Accurate, reliable, adjustable sights, terrific trigger. Heavy, but sucks up recoil. Negatives are pretty much limited to minimal aftermarket, although it is growing as SARUSA gains market share.
YES YES, I second and third that! The so overlooked SARSILMAZ/SAR USA plethora of guns. Just bought the Sar K12 Sport in 9mm and through some aftermarket aluminum grips on it made for the Tanfoglio but a perfect fit and now there's no possible way to have it slip once in your hands. This is going to get a strong bashing from some possibly but I pick it over my CZ Shadow 2 for about every category. I know my CZ is a DA/SA but aside from that the trigger (stock) was just a wee bit better with zero creep and a break so clean, it was above the SA of the CZ in my opinion. The balance was slightly more to my liking and I fell in love with the weight of the gun and the absence of recoil/flip compared to my Shadow 2. The negatives or the largest neg is as mentioned, the lack of aftermarket parts or OEM for that matter. Its been quite some time and far more time than I figured it would take to be a few keystrokes away from acquiring parts and I've not seen anything stocked in the stateside store supposedly just a few bricks away from opening since the get go. Otherwise, this gun has the quality of ANY of the other higher end 9's and 45 with the K2 45
The SAR K245 is my favorite .45ACP. Love my FNX45 tactical but the SAR fits the hands perfectly just like a CZ. Accurate, sweet trigger and reliable. Never one issue! This one sleeps in my nightstand.
Love my K2C in stainless. All though I do have to admit it takes large "mits" to work it. I wear XX Large gloves, so all's good. But someone with med/large hands could struggle. The only mod was was doing a spring job on it. Now even double action is sweet. Leave the hammer & firing pin springs alone unless you want light strikes and failure to fires.
I have a SIG P227 Tactical .45, suppressor ready, and I dig it. You can reduce your recoil for better follow-up shots by adding a recoil reducer. I use DPM recoil reducers on all of my semiauto pistols, regardless of caliber. The recoil is less than that of a 9mm and accuracy is vastly improved.
I was surprised not to see a SIG 227 on the list. I've had one for many years and it remains my go-to .45. It has all I need in a .45 and is totally reliable.
When you start off talking about recoil of the 45 vs 9mm, it would be real nice if you let us know which one of these are the softest recoil, or handle recoil well. Seems like a pretty big factor when considering a 45. I kept reading thinking, they're going to get to ranking the recoil....
Depends on the gun and load. A steel framed .45 might actually shoot softer than poly 9 because the weight compensates for the power. Then you get into mag capacity - an 18 shot 9mm alloy frame might be softer than a poly ten shot .45.
Throw in loads by bullet weight and what power - a cheap FMJ round nose might be light compared to a hot +p hollow point. About the best that can be done is shoot them all side by side with a recoil measuring device and use a dozen different ammo loads each.
I'm not gonna be the guy who sorts that table of numbers.
Personally, I love my 1911. I also have the Glock 30 Gen 4, which I’d take any day over the majority of your selections. You have your opinion and yes, but we all know opinions are like (fill in the blank) we all have them, they all stink. Shoot what you’re comfortable with. The G30 for me is undoubtedly the best balanced pistol I’ve ever shot. And after 40+ years of shooting, I’ve shot my fair share all the way back to S&W Model 17 & 19 wheel guns in the 80’s.
My first one was a Ruger American Pistol full size. Runs well, easy to service, and can be controlled well with one hand or two. It’s a decent home defense gun, but not the first one I pack to take to the range.
I have a RIA Ultra 1911 .45ACP. I paid $600 for it. Out of the box it performs like a 1911 costing 4x as much. I have a Wilson Combat I paid nearly $3k for. The triggers are all but identical.
Remington RP45? 15+1 and cheap. Shoots everything I feed it so far.
I've got a SIG P220 Equinox. I like it but I wonder if I'd like something like the Legion model more since it's single action only and not DA/SA. I've also fooled around with a CZ 97 a time or two and they feel nice in the hand. Might need to snag one of each up.

My Son bought one of them Hi-Point .45 , At first I was a tad Leary of it but I be damn that thing is accurate as all get out , an yes its a bit crude an heavy but has gone bang every time you pull the trigger . I've come to think of it as a dual purpose (1) target shooting (2) provides cardio workout & strengthens shooting arm lol , he keeps it as a boat gun here in Florida. It is a bit of a chore to breakdown but after the 1st time it's not real bad , not something you would wanna field strip .
Ummm I couldn't decide, so I got two... 45Shield and the 21 G4. And good luck finding them at those listed prices!!!
I hope you weren't saying to use speedloaders with Redhawk in 45 acp, those are moon clips. You use speedloaders with 45 colt in the same pistol, but article was about 45 acp.

I enjoyed the article and the fact that you highlighted many of the .45s available. I am retired and carry a .45 as my EDC. In several situations during my career, I saw fellow police officers shoot suspects and it took numerous rounds before the suspect went down. Good shot placement is always the key but not always available in stressful situations. Additional shots might also have been required with a .45 but I why not put a gun and round specifically developed for knock down power to your advantage? Great article and thanks much!

You forgot the HK 45. I own a lot of different 45’s my 1911’s are awesome but next under them comes the HK 45. Look it to the history of it I was made for the us special forces. I’m accurate and it’s easy to shoot. One of the best 45s ever made.

Look into the history of it. It was made for the US Special Forces. It’s accurate and easy to shoot. The military scrapped after they decided one gun for the whole military. Sig P320 was chosen. SF wanted a 45 cal and the HK won the trials. Larry bickers was one of the designers. It’s a good price too can get one for around $800

I just picked up the Springfield armory xdm 4.5 .45 acp and shot it the first time at the range the other day along side my 9s. Very comfortable shooting gun.
The 4.5 45 acp is my nightstand gun. Shooting it at the range is always fun and it goes bang everytime. My first 45. Just picked up a s&w shield 45 for my EDC. It should be every bit as reliable as the Springfield from all the reviews.

There has been enough data that shows there is no "Stopping Power" with hand guns.
And yet according to FBI data, about 20 times more people die every year by a handgun, than a rifle of any kind, including the evil AR-15.
I'm one of those that believe that stopping power in a handgun is a myth.
Remember those cops in California that went against the 2 guys with body armour, the 45 is known to break bones and stop people's hearts wearing body armour or a bullet proof vest.I respectfully disagree.

I like the FNX .45 Tactical. I've used one for a while that is converted to the .460 Rowland. It's nice to have options.
Springfield Armory XD 45 Service Model 4" barrel, 13 + 1 capasity, excellent trigger, super reliable, eats and ejects everything i've run through it, and mine is very accurate even out to 25 yards. I've had it for years and wouldn't trade for it. I do own an S&W Sheild 45 for CC. T Great hand gun!! They're both easy on the wallet as well! I have a buddy that owns an FNX 45. He loves it.

Of this list, I'd have to go with the G-21 but I also have a 4" XD service model in .45 like this poster and agree, it's terrific.
My personal favorite? The Gen 2.5 and Gen 3 Glock 30's, bone stock.
I love my CZ 97 BD that I bought directly from Cajun Gun Works. They fit it with a 1911 style barrel bushing and it has the reach reduction short reset trigger with everything polished and hand fit. They have worked on all my CZ 75 variants, but the 97 they customize is phenomenal.

I carry my smith and wesson m&p shield 2.0 with a crimson laser daily, ran 2,500 round since I have owned it, perfect for what it is, very accurate even at 25 yards, I have a 1911 love that gun but a bit much to carry, the mp is a perfect handgun to carry daily.

And while .45s may be "a bit bulkier than some of the other handguns on the market," that isn't necessarily always the case. My HK 45C is no longer, thicker or heavier than a CZ P-07 in 9mm, and thinner and lighter than a Sig P229.
And people really need to stop using the term "stopping power" in the context of handguns - it's a myth. .45ACP may be more effective than some other options, but none of them have "stopping power" unless you hit a few specific places.

I was also surprised to see the Hi Point but let's face it, a 45 ACP semiauto that "goes bang every time" for $125 is definitely worth mentioning. If I needed of a car/truck gun that I thought could get stolen or scratched up why buy one of the real nice guns when a cheaper one will do the job w/o worries?

I couldn't agree more. I have the Ruger American in .45 ACP and right out of the box was amazing. The smaller grip is perfect for my hand. Also have it in 9mm. They are both great. Far superior to my SRs.

I recently picked up a used Springfield XDM .45 w/ a 5.25" barrel. I was impressed by how smooth it shot. I really like this gun.
I keep reading that the Sig P220 is a little too big for everyday concealed carry. It's not. I'm 5'8", 170lbs, and I find it about the same as a Colt Commander. I use a PJ iwb holster under an untucked shirt, and after a while, I almost forget it's there.
I have been using my FireStar in 45ACP for nearly 30 yrs...I guesstimate over 3000 rounds....hands down, my favorite EDC weapon...small, enough bulk to control, reliable (has only jammed twice, both after a squib), easy to disassemble/clean, feeds anything...

To bad the Hungarian FEG chambered in .45 ACP, isn't still produced. My brother had one and it was smooth and accurate. Basically a Browning Hi-Power clone, except it was offered in 45 auto. He lost most of his collection to a train wreck of a divorce. I'd love to find one today, I'd snap it up with a quickness.

The trouble is nothing has the trigger that a 1911 has. The H&K USP Tactical is next best and the FN45 is the worst. I rate the Glock about in the middle.
You left out the 45 caliber Springfield xdm. I have one with a 3.8 inch match grade barrel and fiber optic sights. It's listed as having a match grade trigger (I wouldn't know) but it's silk smooth pull, crisp break and short reset make me want to agree. It actually improved my results at the range. It came with three back straps. A short magazine for concealed carry (9 rounds), three larger magazines (13 rounds) that have sleeves at the base to make the hand grip longer. A paddle holster, A magazine loader and a well built carry case. All for $500.00
Agreed. I got a used one w/ a 5.25" barrel. It was very impressive when I took it to the range this weekend. It handled 5 different ammo brands w/o issue.
Picked up a Remington RP45 w/tritium sites for a bargain price. Striker fired, 15+1 double stack, no separate safety, 4.5 barrel, easy take down. Has worked fine for me. First run had teething issues. Used as a home/truck gun. No problems running hp's, normally loaded with 230 HST's. Happy so far.
I will take my FNH/FNX over any of the ones mentioned.

Own a P97 decocker Ruger my (deceased) wife gave me 20 years ago. Soft shooter. My under the pillow buddy. Too heavy for me to carry, but many police depts issued at one time. Big ole fat mean lookin' jhps should just about do the job on uninvited.
I am sitting here wondering why the FNX 45 didn't make your list. Could be you never had a chance to shoot this lovely tool. Even with a double stack 15 round magazine you don't have to have Hulk hands to feel hoots smooth the action is. I have several 40 S&W's and a couple of 9's and this is by far my go to EDC.

I endorse the PPQ 45, I also think the Springfield XD should be on this list, especially in light of the fact that he HK Mk23 got so much "press" in the USP section and you detail up the Hi-Point (neither of which I have shot - only "held"). I have personally spent time with all of these with the exception of the Legion variation of the P220, P97 and the Gen 4 Glock 21, the before mentioned P97, MK23 & Hi-Point. My Gen 3 Glock 21 was the worst 45 ACP I have ever owned, from a felt recoil perspective it was a palm buster and a real flinch inducer. Everyone's hand is different, grips are different and our fingers "squeeze" differently, your mileage may vary, but short slow stubby is a War Horse killer.
FNX 45 Tactical isn’t to shabby; 15+1, night sights, rails, threaded barrel ...surprised it’s not on the list.

Great article....but I almost stopped reading after my favorite. 45, the Sig P220 but I'm glad I read on because my next pistol will be a CZ 75 B. I have to agree the HI Point is good enough for those who have to shoot once and throw it in the Chicago river.
And what about the excellent Springfields? You should have upped your count to review and included at least one of the Springfields! Isn’t the XD-S 45 one of the all-time best sellers, quantity wise? Just saying....

The only gun on this list worth considering for EDC is the S&W Shield. The rest are all too bulky and heavy for EDC IMO. The guns left off are the smaller 1911 version like the S&W Champion or Colt Commander types also made by Kimber, etc. If you're going to carry a Glock in .45, look at the G30s or G36 models. The Glock 21 is huge to carry concealed. The Glock 22 in .40 S&W is a bit better, easier to grip, but again, the baby Glocks would be better for carry. The big revolvers are ridiculous for CC although they would be good for home defense but trying to carry a Redhawk is just too much for EDC/CC. Even when hunting on a hip holster it's like hauling a boat anchor on your hip. Stick to guns made for EDC if you are going to do EDC. I own Glocks, Shield, 1911s, LC9, GP100, and Rossi revolvers. Full size frame revolvers are not terribly good for CC either. Overall, I'd go with the Shield for CC/EDC.
The HK USP Tactical you show is NOT the Tactical. It is a standard USP. The Tactical has a longer and threaded barrel, also stamped "Tactical". The price link is also not for a Tactical.
CZ 97B (or B D for carry) are required for this topic. $800 gun that shoots better than a custom 1911 at half the cost.

Have Colt Comp and PPQ45. Colt is sexier but Walther is softer shooter and MUCH easier to maintain. 4 more rounds - a no brainer! Sig Legion, Glock 45 only other options, but Walther trigger is incomparable. PPQ Walther .45 is a bargain. Buy it and enjoy and feel confident in your choice.
I have a S&W Performance center .45acp Shield as my carry gun. LOVE IT! Thankfully I've never had to use it as a defensive weapon. But it has punched many holes in paper, rang many AR500 plates.

What is it then, a fruit? Pistol comes from the French word “pistolet,” it included both semi auto and revolvers. Don’t be a fruit next time.
I have the Ruger 5032 and can attest to the greatness. It will take time to overcome the heavy and long trigger pull, but you will shoot everything else so much better if you do. Keep in mind that the .45 ACP has some cylinder jump to overcome because the case is shorter than .45 Colt. This will affect accuracy some, and you'll have to find the particular cartridge your gun likes. Also, you might adjust your sights for Ruger only hot loaded .45 Colt rounds, and then your point of impact will be off for .45 ACP, or vice versa. Keep these factors in mind.
EDC is P320 in .45, I know SIG has basically abandoned .45 ACP for this line (no X Frames, no red dots, models dropping out of catalog) but it's Sig accurate and just like the 9/40/357 you can swap frames. Subcompact frame when its hot, full size when you have a coat on. Even a used P250 in .45 (sometimes lower than $300) has a fairly smooth DAO trigger and can swap frames as well (plus you can use a LaserLyte trainer in it without racking the slide every shot).

I know this is old but...do yourself a favor and put your hands on the Glock before you buy it. Note that I am not a Glock fan, but I have shot Glock 17, 23, and 43 and didn’t hate them. However, I also shot a Glock 21 (.45acp) and didn’t like it at all compared to any other .45 I had shot before. The .45 being a much bigger round than the 9mm, the grip on the Glock 21 really feels like you’re holding a brick imo. I have fairly large hands too, and it still bothered me, enough to distract me when I was shooting. In contrast I really like the ergonomics on the S&W MP, FNH FN series (both FNS and FNX), all Sig Sauer I have ever touched, and CZ. Nothing wrong with Glock if it works for you, but please try to put your hands on one first when things return to normal and brick and mortars gun store are open.

LOL, as my fellow FN fan boys (girls) mentioned multiple times, the missing of FNX 45 TAC is UNFORGIVABLE (kidding). But yes, there are tons of reasons that why FNX 45 TAC can easily make the list:
Optic ready. I believe FNX 45 TAC is one of the few first (if not The first) mass produced pistols that has optic ready slide. Plus, I consider co-witness is a must-have for red dot, due to reliability reasons. Knocking down rear sight for optic is never going to happen to me.
Highest capacity of 45 ACP (As far as I know). 15+1 rounds of 45 ACP, that won’t look bad even compared with some 9mm pistols with 17+1 capacity.
Super tough and reliable. Originally designed for military service pistol, toughness and reliability is pretty much guaranteed. I have been shooting the cheapest Wolf FMJ 45 ACP for about 2 thousand rounds with zero malfunction (after the breaking in period, 500 rounds, give or take). I know I can trust it with my life.
Nevertheless, your effort for putting together this article is much appreciated. I just want to share my two cents to make other readers more informed.
FN Herstal is incredibly underrated by the general public. I own the FNS9 and it is by far the best striker fired 9 I have shot to date. They make excellent, although pricey, rifles. The FN509 looks outstanding and the older FNX line is good to go in all calibers. I think anyone on the market for a new gun should check FN as well as CZ.
I like my Kimber Ulta-Carry ll titanium. It is accurate out at 25 yards, it doesn’t jam and it is very easy to conceal.
Nice choices. There are only a handful of .45 pistols capable of living life as a combat sidearm, recreational toy, self defense tool, or even a competition shooter: HK45/HKUSP, SigP220, FNX45, and any number of $1300+ 1911's such as the Springfield Armory Tactical model 1911, and any Wilson Combat or Ed Brown 1911. It's the rare combination of reliability and pinpoint accuracy that gets a handgun into this elite club. If I left out a worthy gun please remind me, I actually put a bit of thought into my little list, but my brain only works so good.
What about the KAHR .45??? Nice option for those who also own a Colt .45.

FNX-45 Tactical. As a owner of many .45 ACP's ranging from Kimber Desert Warrior to a SVI double stack race gun I have to say that my FN is my go to .45. As a Marine (not active any longer) I obviously know first hand how great FNH weapons are and the FNX-45 meets those same expectations. I think either this particular weapon was never handled and shot by the author would be a acceptable reason for not being on the list. That would be the ONLY reason why a Glock or any of those chosen would be yet not the FNX.

Have to laugh at ignorant people in regards to the .40S&W( also the XD line of firearms). Don't just look at the ballistics, that are far superior to 9mm & .45acp. , but energy ft. lbs. and wound channels. The only thing better is a 10mm!!! I do understand that some of the limp wristed idiots just can't handle the recoil

Where is the FNX45. It has the highest capacity Magazine and is perfect with shooters with big hands. The Sti Staccato P and the Baretta PX4 Storm should be on this list over a few other of your choices
I was going to mention the FNX45 (great gun) also. I have 3 45s, my Colt Combat Elite is obviously a 1911 so not on this list, my M&P 45 is, but what about my CZ 97?!? 10 rds + 1, and an amazing shooter. No, it's not a carry gun but a sheer delight on the range and an excellent home defense option with its tritium sights (this one sleeps under my pillow).

I'm sorry but I can't fathom this list, you got half of the contenders wrong.
4 of the contenders are USP Tactical/USP full size, USP Compact, HK 45 Compact, and HK 45 tactical/Full size.
From there the sig is a great choice, so is the glock. But that is your 6, and the reason being, is the 45 compact in LEM or the USP compact with the LEM is the best Carry 45 size and ergos ever.
But the USP/HK45 and the permutations are the best 45's still to this date. I like the glock, but the LEM trigger is just so perfect on the HK's that striker goodness is a mute point.
Good article. Though the Glock 21 would be rather reliable, it’s grip is just too big. I settled for smaller USP 45 then later an Expert 45 which I competed with for 14 years. It was forgiving to shoot and utterly reliable and accurate! At 1” for 25 yards it would ring 12” steel 9/10 x at 100 yards.
Is .45acp still a relevant cartridge? Yes its a load not to be sneezed at and in certain applications is perfect. However Imho the 9mm as come a long way the past 10 years. There are some loads that have some devastating violent knock down power. I’d rather carry 15-21 rounds of 124g+P HP. I know plenty will disagree. Just a thought.
Your list is OK. But, Glock forever! I have a 21 a 30 and a 36. All three are EDC weapons (not at the same time of course), Been carrying for about three and a half years and I live in Orange County California.
I live in the Kiladelphia area, I carry my 45 as primary a 9mm as a secondary.

It’s my next pistol acquisition. Between a CMMG MK Guard holding 30 rounds of 45 ACP (soon to get an 8” barrel pistol configuration), and the FN FNX, the only missing parts are a laser and lights for both and my SLP or JP slung on my back then I’d say I’d be ready.

I believe on of the most important things on any gun is the trigger pull. If it is not smooth and easy, you will more than likely pull to the right.

I conceal carry a Glock 36 e/w night sights when I'm not carrying a Kimber compact pro e/w night sights. Lately I've been shooting a lot with an FN FX-45 tactical and it should be considered one of the top non 1911 handguns available. Mine has the factory high night sights and Trijicon RMR optic. I think this pistol shoots better than my Glock SF21 and almost as well as my Sig P220.

I know that these types of articles are by nature not all inclusive, but I've had a Springfield Xdm compact for a couple of years now. I love my 1911, but wanted larger capacity in .45 cal.
Having shot close to 3,000 rounds of different brands, weights, and bullet types, I have never had an FTF or jam. This is a quality firearm. I'm older, so I did swap out the standard sights for TruGlo tfx 3dot tritium sights.

I own a Redhawk 45 ACP/45 LC, and love it. It is one of the best looking handguns ever made, imho. With ACP loads it has minimal recoil, but hits hard. The full moon clips make for easy reloads too. And because its a Ruger you can use the hottest 45 LC loads available for bear-stopping power in a very easy to carry handgun.
My other 45 ACP is a Sig 320 full-size. A very capable gun that I carry OWB quite a lot on outdoor trips. I am in search of a smaller CCW 45 ACP. A review of the Ruger American compact would be helpful. The 10 +1 capacity sounds great in a small package. I had hoped Sig would develop a concealable 320 in 45 ACP, especially since the fire control units make for easy swaps between different size frames.
The other handgun on my wish list in 45 caliber is a Ruger Blackhawk with ACP and LC cylinders.
I know what you mean about the Redhawk .45 ACP/.45 Colt. I love mine. I actually seen to shoot more accurately with the ACP. If you also are seeking a good, compact .45 ACP then, yes, the Shield is a good choice. I put a Hogue grip wrap on mine because the aggressive stippling becomes uncomfortable during extended range sessions. AND, I just acquired a Gen 4 Glock 30. The mag holds 10 so with one in the chamber that’s a decent capacity. Didn’t need it but my LGS had an insane deal on it. Taking it out this coming Tuesday.
Picked up a Rock Island 45, not quite as inexpensive as some, but, not quite as expensive as some. Been running great.
Glock 30. Perfectly balanced and concealable in a pocket holster. Recoil isn’ bad either. Fits in my Glock 26 pocket holster. 10 round capacity.
Why it the Springfield or FN-FNX? The FNX is built for war with a 15 round capacity. The m&p 45 2.0 is best value, excellent sights, single stack 10 for people living in communist states.
That is a fact. The M&P .45 2.0 is a fantastic pistol. The grip angle and texture make it very. very controllable and fun to shoot. I intend to buy one asap.
If you're big enough to pull it off comfortably and without printing--and, obviously, can shoot it well--a 1911 carried condition 1 is a fine .45acp CC choice, at least for the colder-weather/more-clothing months. I look forward to the latter so that I can carry concealed a full-size .45acp or 9mm semi-auto, or an equally hefty (e.g. S&W 686+) wheel gun. My Sig P365 or Walther PPK/S does great for the rest of the year.

I would go with a Glock 19 (my first pistol and I have had it for 30 years). Price point is in the $450 range. Great gun and easy to shoot. I recommend going to a local range and trying out a few. You should be able to rent some for about $10 per gun (most will require you to buy the ammo from them). Good luck!
Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 9mm 2.0 is an excellent gun for smaller to medium size hands. I'm a 26 year old man and I find this gun to be really comfortable and concealable.

Nonsense. I have the same size hands as my wife, and a full-size Glock is absolutely useless to me. Furthermore, you should practice with the gun that you carry, and the gun that you are most familiar with should be your go-to for home defense as well..

My wife is a small woman of 110 lbs and we recently got her the S&W M&P .380 Shield EZ For self defense and she has since Fired a few hundred rounds through this gun and she loves it. It fits her hand well, is easy to rack, and the minimal recoil of the .380 is no problem for her. We shopped around for quite a while and this was overwhelmingly the best choice and fit for her.

There is no finer handgun than the FNX45. Invalidates this list that it is not included . Accurate, reliable. I have both the HK45 and the FNX45, and the FN offering is a better pistol. Plus, my HK is finicky with ammo brands.
why is the fnx ,.45 acp pistol not listed ? it holds 15 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber 16 total.is more accurate than most v1911 pistols is reachable under 800 bucks and has a double single action trigger ,tunable to 2 lb trigger pull ?

The Cz 97B Is one of the most accurated 45 acp, i have all guns of the list except for the Beretta and i will said, to me the Cz 97B is the best of them.

Want a great trigger on a .45 pistol? Try a Pardini GT45. Mine breaks at 1.5 lbs but easily adjusted higher if desired.

I'd consider the hk mark 23 as a top pistol design. Yes, it's big but designed to outlast any of us.
The 16 Round FNX-45 Tactical (Fabrique Nationelle/Winchester) is far superior in in its features if a tad bigger handgun is Ok. Mine is outfitted with a Grizzly Muzzle Brake in SS-Dark Earth Finish, has the Laser Sight and low-profile rail Laser. Custom gun leather was made by Kevin Nightingale in Ohio.

Umm the FNX-45 Tactical isn't on here.....Serious loss of credibility here. I never comment on these things, but was completely floored when I saw that the FNX was missing....15+1 capacity, DA/SA, decocker, night sights standard, threaded barrel standard (none of the listed guns had that) was a serious contender to replace the M9. The list goes on, go ahead and look it up.

Your article sparked some interest as I started searching for a .45 and did not necessarily want a 1911 frame. I recently fired an FN and a griffon(1911 frame). I really like the FN but out of my price range. I started researching Taurus 24/7 OSS. I own a 909 and it is great. I was able to locate a new in the box 24/7 oss. but just learned it is on the Taurus class action claim. What feedback information etc. as the author can you follow up with. The reviews I have read regarding the OSS have all been great. Thank you for your feedback.

the supermatch is SAO .................... and I have one and its excellent .......... but if you have smaller hands like myself, the gorgeous wooden grips are a tad large........ but hogue grips offered by sig for this model are excellent and reduce the grip size significantly.

Thank you for all the information you provide here. I just recently started buying and collecting guns. I feel like im buying my first car, dont know quite what is good or bad, but anxious to own. I have a dpms ar15, a century arms ak47, and a glock 19 gen4. i have not fired either of them yet because i do not want to screw anything. i know they need to be cleaned and oiled, i assume anyway, before any of that activity happens. reading your articles and browsing your site gives me confidence to get started. i think this is a hobby that will grow on me. i will be spending alot of time here.

Taurus has some newer 24/7s now that are supposed to have OSS DNA in them and look pretty promising.
That aside though, did you consider the Sarsilmaz K2-45? (EAA SAR K2) I have one I've been pretty happy with. 14+1 capacity, DA/SA trigger, sturdy and well built, accurate, etc. It's also quite cheap - but I believe it performs much better than many of it's more expensive counterparts.

Great review! It must be really difficult limiting the list...
I found an older model that I really like: Para Ordnance P12. Compact size for easy carry, but with a 12 round double stack magazine. My P30SK has more muzzle flip. If you like the 1911 style trigger and feel of the 1911, this is a nice alternative. I almost went with the M&P shield 45 when this came to my attention.
