Philae island - by Ernst Weidenbach (German painter, 1818-1882). Philae is an ancient temple complex of Greco-Roman times about 8 km south of Aswan on Lake Nasser in southern Egypt. Today's location of the temple complex is no longer the original island of Philae, as it has sunk in Lake Nasser. In the 1960s the temple was relocated to the island Agilkia. It is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Orignal lithograph from my archive, published in 1861.
