This book has been written by a Freemason, but it aims, nevertheless, at avoiding philosophical considerations as far as possible. Its principle object is to explain facts about which questions have often arisen, and it will describe the objects and the practice of Freemasonry, as this would seem to be necessary in these days when such distorted views are held regarding the Fraternity. I therefore do not wish to dogmatize, but only to describe " * Lennhoff therefore, in the best spirit of German scholarship, spends very little time in the misty past of Freemasonry, in the manner of most if not all 19th-century historians of Freemasonry, but begins his historical quest in the 18th-century, with its Weishaupts and Washingtons, its Grand Lodges and Grand Orients. *** CONTENTS: ** PUBLISHER S NOTE TO THE NEW EDITION. Large octavo (9 by 6 inch) hardcover, 3/4 leather, faux leather vinyl boards, gilt-stamped spine, marbled endpapers, silk page ribbon. * Text has some typos (SEE BELOW), fine hand-binding in FINE CONDITION. *** The text is a modern digital printing of an article by Waite which appeared in Vol. VII, No. 6 (June 1921) of "The Builder", one of the pre-eminent Masonic magazines of the time. The article was titled "Emblematic Freemasonry." Somewhat later, in 1925, William Rider & Son published a full-length book by Waite with the same title and subject. This earlier article, then, can be considered the original kernel of that fully developed book. *** This copy, a modern digital printing as mentioned, has been specially bound in a very accomplished leather binding, even using real, hand-made marbled endpapers (nowadays fake copies of marbled endpapers are often substituted for the real thing). *** The binding must have cost a pretty penny, and was presumably meant as a gift or presentation, perhaps to a fellow Bro. Unfortunately, it wasn't proofread and corrected before being printed and bound, and is somewhat riddled with typos. That said, the typos are not too terribly distracting, and it could still well serve as a gift or presentation copy. *** NOTA BENE: PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION WELL THIS IS NOT THE FULL-LENGTH BOOK TITLED "EMBLEMATIC FREEMASONRY", BUT IS A COPY OF A SHORT, 11-PAGE MAGAZINE ARTICLE OF THE SAME NAME AND BY THE SAME AUTHOR. *^*^* SOME TYPOS AS NOTED, BUT NEVERTHELESS LOVINGLY AND ATTRACTIVELY HAND-BOUND, PRESUMABLY FOR PRESENTATION.

There are also some Orders for young women: Rainbow Girls & Job's Daughters, but it is only the DeMolay which is covered in this book. It contains actual ritual narratives in rubricated (red) text, as well as 12 diagrams of Lodge, or, as I believe they're called, Chapter layouts and ritual movements. *** A note on the title page says that these books remain the property of the International Order of DeMolay and must be turned over on request, so there are very few in general circulation. *** The Order was named after Jacques De Molay, the final Grand Master of the Knights Templars, who was tortured at length and finally executed by the Inquisition in 1314 during the suppression of the Templar Order by King Philip the Fair of France and his pet anti-Pope. The Masonic Knights Templar is an allied degree within Freemasonry, and the Knights Templars also feature in the higher grades of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. *^*^* VERY RARE AMONG MASONIC TITLES IN GENERAL CIRCULATION FOR THE REASON MENTIONED.

Under his own name he was the editor of MERCURY an esoteric magazine with ties to the SRIA. Plummer and Sylvester Clark Gould, a high level Freemason, formed the SRIA or Societas Rosicruciana in America after the form and example of the similarly named SRIA or Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia. Gould served as the Imperator and Supreme Magus until his death in 1909, after which Plummer filled the position until his death in 1944. As with the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia, the membership of the Societas Rosicruciana in America was originally restricted to Master Masons only. *** The book itself is a now classic "secret society" initiation novel set during the Napoleonic era and first published in 1894. MACKEY, best know for his incredibly comprehensive ENCYCLOPOEDIA OF FREEMASONRY): ** "To the Masonic Reader. This attempt, the first one ever made upon and extended scale, to illustrate the principles, by exhibiting the effects of Freemasonry, is respectfully offered to the Craft, wheresoever dispersed. In it I have endeavored to avoid romantic incidents. I have not introduced unnatural or improbable embellishments. But, from a large collection of facts, gathered in my travels through almost every section of the United States, I have prepared, in a plain style, the following sketches. In the preparation of these sketches, I have had three principal ideas in view: First. To introduce nothing of an important nature, but what is literally true. Second. To introduce incidents enough to bear either directly or indirectly upon every section of Masonic obligation and privilege. Third. To introduce the technical language of Masonry, so far as good authority is afforded me, by standard works. *^*^* A VERY RARE 19TH CENTURY CLOTH VOLUME IN VERY SOLID & STILL ATTRACTIVE VINTAGE CONDITION.
