VAGINAL IRRIGATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1915.
Application led May 1, 1914. Serial No. 835,718.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANK MoUL'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sunnyside, Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vaginal Irrigators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap,
pertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to vaginal irrigators and has for an object to provide a device of the class embodying new and improved means for expanding the cavity to permit access of the irrigating liquid to all parts of the chamber.
A further object of the invention is to provide improved means for inserting the instrument with improved means for expanding certain parts after such insertion and contracting the expanded parts for removal of the instrument. V
Vith these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
4In the drawings: Figure 1 is a view of the improved irrigator in side elevation showing the expanding members collapsed in full lines and expanded in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the expanding members collapsed. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view showing the means for retaining the expanding members in expanded position.
Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The improved irrigator which forms the the handle it will .slide over the keeper and be retained in the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. l. Secured to the runner 11 are wires or other resilient members 16 pret'- erably not hinged to the runner but rigidly secured thereto in any approved manner as for instance that shown at 17 especially in detail in Fig. 8; Runner 14 has an annular recess reduced at its opening, the recess having a greater diameter just beyond the opening. The ends of members 16 project into the portion last mentioned and are held by a washer 17. At their opposite ends the members 16 are likewise rigidly secured to the tube 10 in any approved manner as by the use of the ring 18, it being understood, however, that the exact manner of attach ing the resilient members is not essential to the present invention. When the ring 18 is employed a cap 19 is also employed which is secured to the tube 10 by means of the screw-threading shown at 20 toproperly cover the ring 18 and hold it in position and also present an extremity not liable to damage the parts. The tube 10 is also provided withk discharge or spray openings 21 through which the fluid is discharged in use.
In operation the device is inserted in the cavity in the condition shown at full lines at Fig. 1 and after such insertion the resilient members are expanded to the dotted line position 16 as shown at Fig. 1, thus expanding the walls of the cavity taking out folds and wrinkles therein and assuring access of the irrigating liquid to all parts of the chamber. Such irrigating liquid is, of course, discharged through the spray openings 21 by route ofthe hose 11 from any convenient source of fluid pressure. lVhen the irrigation has been completed the device is collapsed by releasing the keeper 15 and permitting the flexible members 1G to assume normal or full line positions whereupon the device is withdrawn and the operation is completed.
I claim:
In a vaginal irrigator, a tube having spray openings adjacent its extremity, resilient members secured to the extremity, a tubular runner slidable on the tube and having an annular recess with a reduced annular opening and a portion of greater diameter than the main recess for receiving In testimony whereof I affix my signature the opposite ends of the resilient members, in presence of two Witnesses. means for holding said opposite ends Within FRANK MOULTON, the recess and said portion of greater diam- YWitnesses:
5 eter, and means for maintaining the runner H. LLOYD MILLER, in advanced position on the tube. `W. P. PICKING.
