Description

The present invention relates to shielded links serving different connection points. It relates more particularly to an arrangement for connecting a connector to a terminal part of a shielded link used under conditions of strong electromagnetic illuminations.

Such a shielded link is of defined configuration and comprises, according to this configuration, a linear cord of conductors or a bundle consisting of multiple branches of conductors and its terminal connectors for connection to the various connection points.

For certain applications, it is impossible or not desirable to equip these shielded connections with all or part of their connectors, before the installation of these connections. This is in particular the case during a wall crossing, in which a passage sufficient for the connector cannot be authorized, the latter generally being of larger diameter than that of the cord or of the branch of the bundle formed to which it is normally connected. This can also be the case when the connectors are relatively fragile and can be damaged during transport handling or fitting the connection.

In a known manner, the shielding against the electromagnetic disturbances of a linear cord and in particular of the linear parts of a bundle formed can be produced by metallic braiding shields. The rear connection part of the connectors to the cord or harness must itself be protected by a shield. This protection can be obtained by grinding, to thread it on the rear part of the connector, the end of the shielding braid of the cord or of the branch of the bundle formed.

This crush degrades the geometry of the braid. If this trituration is acceptable for links having to undergo weak electromagnetic stresses, it is not however for those having to undergo high electromagnetic stresses.

Document US-A-3,753,215 describes a method of connecting a connector t to a shielded cable, the cable comprising a set of insulated conductors, a braided shield screen and an outer sheath. The set of conductors is mounted in a rear part of the connector. The rear end of the connector is itself received in the terminal part of the sheath and pressurized against the underlying shielding screen. It is thus held in place by an external retaining band. The shielding continuity thus ensured between the connector and the cable is not always very reliable.

In a manner also known, it is possible to improve the low performances obtained by threading the shielding braid on the rear part of the connector, by mounting a heat-shrinkable sheath on the rear part of the connector and the end of the braid. This heat-shrinkable sheath must ensure a seal over the shielding braid, but in practice it turns out that a sufficiently retractable and perfectly sealed sheath is uncommon for a significant difference between the diameters of the connector and of the cord or branch to which the connector is connected. In addition, the installation of this sheath is not always easy, especially when the connector is connected, given that it is ensured after the connection has been installed.

The object of the present invention is to connect a connector to one end of an already shielded link, avoiding the aforementioned drawbacks and in particular allowing easy and rapid assembly of the connector, with high electromagnetic protection at its level and without degrading the shielding of the terminal part of the link connected to this connector.

It also advantageously makes it possible to replace a defective connector in place with a new connector, under the aforementioned mounting and protection conditions.

The invention relates to a connector connection arrangement on a screened connection, comprising said screened connection comprising a conductor strand and a screen braid covering said strand and said connector having a so-called rear end for connection to a terminal part of said shielded connection, characterized in that it comprises a widener, of transverse dimensions substantially identical to those of said rear end of said connector, positioned on said end portion of said shielded connection substantially at the location of connection of said connector and at least partially covered by said preformed shielding braid on the expander, at its transverse dimensions.

  • une extrémité dite arrière de l'élargisseur sur ladite partie terminale de la liaison blindée est de profilé arqué;
  • un positionneur monté sur ledit toron de conducteurs forme une butée d'une extrémité dite avant de l'élargisseur sur ladite partie terminale;
This arrangement advantageously also has at least one of the following additional characteristics:
  • a so-called rear end of the expander on said end portion of the shielded link is of arcuate profile;
  • a positioner mounted on said conductor strand forms a stop at a so-called front end of the expander on said end portion;
  • the braiding has a self-locking loop, made on the conductive strand, being almost adjacent to the expander.

The characteristics and advantages of the present invention will emerge from the description of exemplary embodiments illustrated in the attached drawings. In these drawings:
  • FIG. 1 is a schematic and partial sectional view of a shielded and pre-equipped link according to the present invention, of which only one shielded and thus pre-equipped terminal part has been shown,
  • FIG. 2 is a view in partial section of this terminal part to which a connector has been connected,
  • FIG. 3 is a variant given with respect to FIG. 1.

In FIG. 1, only one of the terminal parts of a shielded link 1 has been illustrated, which is pre-equipped for mounting a connector 2 (FIG. 2) on this terminal part. This terminal part is designated below by the reference 1 of the link to which it belongs.

Such a shielded link has a preset configuration. It is constituted for example by a linear cord or by a bundle made up of conductors, this bundled made up having multiple branches and having one or more branches. It is connected to two terminal connectors on the cord or to as many connectors as there are multiple terminal branches of the bundle formed, to serve corresponding connection points.

The shielded connection is made of stranded conductors of which all or part of them belongs to the terminal part 1. The conductors of this terminal part are designated under the reference 3.

This link is shielded over its entire length. This shielding is ensured, at least as regards the linear portions of the connection and therefore the terminal portion concerned 1, by a shielding braid, single or multi-layer, 4.

According to the invention, this terminal part 1 is equipped with an expander 5 mounted directly on its conductor strand, before its shielding. The expander is positioned at the location where the aforementioned connector will be connected. The shielding braid 4 is then executed, with the expander in place on the conductor strand, during the same braiding operations.

Advantageously, a positioner 6 is held substantially at the end of the strand of conductors 3. It serves as a front stop for the expander then correctly positioned and avoids the front displacement and the unexpected withdrawal of the latter during the braiding operations or subsequently from below. of the shielding braid.

This expander has identical transverse dimensions, as rigorously as possible, to those of the rear end of the connector. The so-called rear end 5A of the expander, the innermost on the terminal part 1, is profiled by having a rounded or conical shape. It allows an easy and smooth transition of the shielding braid between the expander and the conductor strand, of different transverse dimensions.

The expander is made of hard material, which can be metal or plastic.

It can be reused many times, especially when it is complex in shape and then relatively expensive.

The shielding braid 4, produced in one or more layers overlapping one another, is executed continuously along the length of the terminal part already carrying the expander. It is thus preformed to the transverse dimensions of the expander and thereby to those of the rear end of the connector. The braiding can be performed with different braiding steps on the expander and on the conductor strand, with a continuous variation at the transition, to allow if necessary and in particular when there is a significant difference in transverse dimensions between them, obtaining high performance protection over the entire length of the terminal part 1, including included on the expander.

The shielding braid 4 completely covers the expander, or may cover it only partially. Being preformed to the transverse dimension of the rear end of the connector, it avoids any crushing liable to degrade its characteristics when the connector is installed.

The expander 5 also serves as a bearing surface for cutting the correct length of the shielding braid 4. At the same time it protects the conductors it covers from injuries that this cutting could cause. The section plane of the shielding braid is identified at 7, at a distance from the rear end of the expander substantially equal to the length of the rear connection end of the connector. This cut eliminates the excess braid length and removes the expander to slide the rear end of the connector under the shielding braid without deforming it.

Advantageously, provision is initially made on the terminal part and pre-equipped for mounting the connector, or mounting, after cutting the excess length of the shielding braid and eliminating the expander, fixing accessories, such as 'a fixing ring 8 shown in dotted lines, when these accessories are of closed structure. These accessories are deformable or retractable, for subsequent tightening of the shielding braid on the rear end of the connector, either by crimping or cryogenics or magnetostriction, in particular, depending on the nature of their materials. Of course, different means can be used for fixing the shielding braid to the rear end of the connector.

A metallic and flexible protective strip 9, closed on itself, can also be associated with the fixing accessories, as shown in dotted lines.

It is threaded onto the cutting end of the braid, after the expander has been removed. It is used to protect the operator during the blocking of the shielding braid on the connector, avoiding possible bites caused by the ends of the shield braid cut, which it covers.

This connector has a body in two parts, one at the rear 11 and the other at the front 12 which are assembled to each other by a connecting nut 13 .

The rear part defines an expansion and distribution chamber for the conductors of the strand 3, the excess length of the conductors possibly being cut off. It is at the rear end which forms a rear collar 14 for entry of the conductors into the chamber and is threaded under the shielding braid, the latter being fixed by means such as 8, possibly with the intermediate protection 9.

The front part 12 comprises a plurality of contacts 15 mounted and retained in an insulating block 16, to which the conductors of the strand are connected. The contacts are also protruding on the insulating block in the front face of the connector. A front peripheral nut 17 on this connector ensures its locking on a complementary connector at the connection point of this terminal part.

The shielding braid is designated by the reference 4 ′ to translate its differences, specified below, with respect to the shielding braid in FIG. 1.

This shielding braid 4 ′ further comprises a self-locking loop 24 produced with the execution of the braid. This loop is almost adjacent to the rear end 5A of the expander and extends over the conductor strand 3, over a few centimeters. It is obtained by a back and forth movement of the braiding, during the execution of the different layers or at least of the single final layer, when the shielding braid is multilayer, so as to form a double hem.

This loop prevents any slipping of the possible multiple layers of the shielding braid, one on the other, in particular during the cutting of excess length of the braid and the fitting and connecting the connector. It acts directly as a ring for fixing the shielding braid to the conductor strand.

It also allows the dismantling of the connected connector, for maintenance or repair or replacement needs, without stress and displacement resulting from the shielding braid on the conductor strand. This is necessary and made authorized and easy, in particular when the connection is used under high temperature conditions, for which its connectors include ceramic parts and are therefore fragile. This same self-locking loop also opposes the relative displacements of the shielding braid and the strand, with possible mechanical stresses in vibration under certain conditions of use, avoiding friction and resulting damage to the insulators of the conductors. .
