Queen Letizia Of Spain Loves Espadrilles Even More Than The Duchess Of Cambridge
In 2015, when Altuzarra sent a sun-warmed, Spanish-inspired collection down the runway, the models, appropriately, wore espadrilles. But it was Yves Saint Laurent who first put a catwalk spin on the utility shoe when he unveiled wedge espadrilles in the early 1970s. Ever since, the rope-soled shoe has been a feature in mainstream summer wardrobes. Including those of high-profile fans like Queen Letizia of Spain.
Created to be functional and easy to wear, the classic espadrille hails from her native Spain, a unisex shoe that dates back to the 13th century. While Letizia has long been a fan of the footwear, she’s barely taken them off this summer, completing many ensembles with a pair from her extensive collection of espadrilles. From her navy Calzados Picon shoes to her Mint & Rose Sardinia espadrilles, the royal has rarely been seen in public without them in recent months.
Just like the Duchess of Cambridge, who loves her Castañer Carina canvas espadrilles, Queen Letizia turns to hers time and time again in warmer months. Here, we take a closer look at all the times the Queen has worn her favourite daytime shoe this summer.
