What Is a Body Paint Model and How to Become One

Body Paint Model

What Does a Body Paint Model Do?

Body paint models allow artists to use their bodies as a canvas at a special event, photoshoot, or performance art installation. In this role, one or more artists paint your body in a particular style or to promote a product or company, covering your entire body in the design. Once the artists complete the artwork, you pose for photos or within a display to create a visual impact. You may be posing in a studio for a series of pictures, at a conference as the centerpiece of a company's display, or you may be part of a performance showcase. Depending on the project, some employers may expect you to pose in unusual or eye-catching ways to increase audience traffic.

How Can I Get a Job as a Body Paint Model?

Working as a body paint model does not require any formal education, but you do need physical stamina, patience, and creativity. Because body painting requires several hours to complete, you are expected to remain still and hold a given position with only occasional breaks. Body paint artists seek models of all body types, especially those with interesting physical features, and expect you to shave all exposed areas of your body. You need to be comfortable with your body and with varying degrees of nudity, and you should be able to keep an open mind and be flexible in evolving situations. Communicating effectively with your artist is essential; you need to let them know if you need a break, if they are hurting you, or if you are uncomfortable. You also need to be excited to model in the project and exhibit a positive attitude throughout the exhibit.
