The event allows pooch lovers to honour the pets in their lives - both past and present.

It allows them to express their love, grief and gratitude by walking together or marking the moment in their own private way.

However, people who do not feel ready to share their grief with others can still take part by walking solo on their dog's favourite walking route.

And on the day, they will connect you with dog lovers nationwide in the collective memory of their most special canine companions.

Dogs Trust boss Suzie Carley said: "When a dog passes away, there is no funeral or ritual to mark their passing.

"So we want to give owners the opportunity to celebrate their dog's life in a meaningful, positive way."

The national event is currently selling dog tickets, which are limited, so dog owners are urged to get their tickets before it's too late.

Purchasing a ticket will help Dogs Trust to provide a cosy bed, veterinary care, nutritious food and many more to all the dogs urgently in need.

A dog ticket is needed to enter the event with the dog; otherwise, entry is not guaranteed.

More information about the National Walk at Malahide will be released tomorrow on their Dogs Trust website.
