Many happy returns to Elizabeth Hurley, who turned 55 on Wednesday. And what better way to mark the occasion, than with an Instagram post of her basking in a bubble bath surrounded by pleasing prints of ducks. ‘Happy birthday to me,’ she wrote, adding: ‘This is the fifth birthday we’ve celebrated during lockdown amongst my little group - including my mother’s 80th and my son’s 18th.’ Damien Hurley, her son, posted his own photograph to Instagram (pictured below) that said: ‘Happy birthday to my twin! My partner in crime forever’. It’s true, Hurley Junior is a double of his mother, something he has dialled up by opting for identical hair.

With washboard abs and a voice like a military commander, it will surprise few that some kind of fitness regime is factored into her glamorous lifestyle. Very kindly, back in May, the business woman shared a sun-dappled photograph of herself in a bikini doing a few vigorous arm movements with the accompanying commentary, ‘every day, I try and do a few arm exercises’. She does the moves before a delightfully verdant garden that features a companion on a sun-lounger with a gratifyingly obedient black pup – who seems entirely unfazed by the activity to its right.
Pink dumbbells – that complement her bikini – are the order of the day for Hurley, a fitness product that has been dispatched to households far and wide since lockdown commenced. Friends and fans include Trinny Woodall, the partner of Charles Saatchi, who commented ‘Utterly gorgeous!’ on the video posted to Instagram. While Dame Joan Collins wrote, ‘Body of a 22-year-old’. Of course, Collins doesn’t look so bad herself and recently wrote about the perils of ageism in the Spectator. ‘I’ve always thought western society was terribly ageist, and I don’t just mean ‘showbiz’ folk but across the board. Then our government insisted the ‘over-seventies (horrible expression) were part of the ‘vulnerables’ (an even more horrible expression) and should remain in lockdown (the most horrible expression of all) until a vaccine is found.’
Hurley is currently in lockdown at her countryside home in Herefordshire, Donnington Hall. A sprawling Georgian estate with a beautiful lake and stunning woodland. Hurley has previously mentioned that she enjoys fruit picking in the grounds in order to make her own jam.
