A saucy, savory Venezuelan-Style Black Beans are a wonderful side dish with rice and chicken. he black turtle bean is a small, shiny variety of the common bean especially popular in Latin American cuisine, though it can also be found in the Cajun and Creole cuisines of south Louisiana. Venezuelan Black Beans are an important component of the national dish, Pabellon Criollo, served with white rice and shredded beef. Caraotas Negras are also served stuffed into freshly-toasted arepas (corn patties) with shredded white cheese.

Ingredients for Caraotas Negras Recipe

  • As required Cooking oil spray
  • 1 No.s medium onion, diced
  • 1 No.s medium green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 tablespoon Molasses
  • 2 No.s cloves garlic, minced
  • 900 gram black beans
  • 2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoon finely minced fresh cilantro

  • STEP 1.Heat a skillet and add onions and peppers to it.

  • STEP 1.Cook it by stirring occasionally, for 7-10 minutes.

  • STEP 1.Add garlic and molasses to it and combine everything together.

step 4

  • STEP 1.Add black beans with 1 cup of water and the cumin, salt and pepper.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Once done give it a nice stir and simmer for five more minutes. Top it with cilantro and serve.
