SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The titular founder of a Sioux City restaurant staple has passed away.

Bob Roe, founder and owner of Bob Roe’s Point After and North End Zone, died Monday, according to a post on the business’s Facebook page. Bob, his wife Karin, and their family have owned and operated Bob Roes Point After for more than 40 years. Bob Roe also founded Westside Pizza.

Bob Roe’s Point After has been a feature in Siouxland for more than 30 years, even playing host to many political and sports figures, including former President Barack Obama, Chip Lohmiller, George Allen, Ernie Els, Jim McGovern, Jeff Meggont, Jeff Woodland, Bob Feller, and many Siouxland athletes.

Bob Roe was known for being a supporter of the community and sponsoring athletic teams big and small, including sponsoring a team in the NAIA Women’s Basketball Championship hosted in Sioux City.

In the post, the business said he touched the lives of many, leaving the world a better place. The post also said he always gave back to the community. That point is exemplified by the time the City of Sioux City named a street in his honor in April 2021. Vine Avenue gained the alias “Bob Roe Way” as a thanks for his community involvement.

After many theaters closed down at the beginning of the pandemic, Bob Roe’s Point After held a drive-in movie to provide Siouxlanders with a chance for a community event. Like many other sports bars, the Point After was impacted by the coronavirus, including by the subsequent shortages due to a lack of product and a lack of supply chain labor.

Santa even frequently made stops at Bob Roe’s Point After over the years to ask kids about any last-minute gift requests.
