Identification & Behavior: ~18.5 cm (7.2 in). The Pale-legged Hornero has rufous upperparts and whitish buff (northwest Peru) or light rufous (Amazonia) underparts. The crown is gray with a pale iris in the northwest and darker in the Amazonia. The bill and legs are generally pale. It forages on the ground in open or semi-open habitats. In Amazonia, the Pale-legged Hornero is distinguished from the Lesser Hornero by larger size and from the Pale-billed Hornero by pale underparts and darker bill and legs.

Status: The Pale-legged Hornero is common and widespread in northwest Peru and in Amazonia where it is known to range up to 1000 m along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Hornero de Pata Pálida.

Sub-species: Pale-legged Hornero (Furnarius leucopus cinnamomeus), (Lesson), 1844.  W Ecuador (S from W Esmeraldas) and NW Peru (S to N Ancash).
(Furnarius leucopus tricolor), Giebel, 1868.  E Peru (Amazonas S to Puno) and W Brazil (E to W Pará, S to N Mato Grosso) S to C Bolivia (Santa Cruz).

Meaning of Name: Furnarius: L. furnus= oven, furnarius= baker. leucopus: Gr. leukos= white and pous, podos= foot. leukopous, leukopodos= white-footed.
