Identification & Behavior: ~15 cm (6 in). The Lesser Hornero has rufous upperparts. The throat is pale and poorly defined from the pale-rufous underparts. The crown and sides of the head are grayish. It has a pale long and broad supercilium. The iris is dark. The bill and legs are dusky. It forages on the ground in open or semi-open habitats mostly in fairly young river-created habitat and similar human-created habitats. It is similar to the Pale-legged Hornero but is distinguished by a smaller size.
Status: The Lesser Hornero is largely restricted to young river created habitats along the Amazon, Napo, Maranon, and Ucayali Rivers. It also occurs in Co, Ec, and Br. It also occurs in Co, Ec, and Br.

Sub-species: Lesser Hornero (Furnarius minor), Pelzeln, 1858.
