Dwarf Caiman, a cousin of the alligator, removed from Lakewood home

LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Lakewood police took a dwarf Caiman, the cousin of the alligator, away from a home on Athens Avenue Thursday night.

Police confirmed Friday a 2-foot long reptile was found in the home.

Alligator and snake were taken from a home on Athens Avenue in Lakewood.

The resident had died, police said.

Authorities initially believed it was an alligator, but News 5 and the public did not see a picture until Friday.

Keith Gisser, executive director of Herps Alive Foundation, confirmed to News 5 the reptile is a dwarf Caiman.

A snake was also found inside the home.

Police said the dwarf Caiman was found in a cage and was taken out of the home for safekeeping.
