Mystery fans will soon have a new thriller to sink their teeth into starring Emmy award winner Amanda Seyfried.

Peacock announced Friday that the new limited series Long Bright River, based on Liz Moore’s successful book of the same name, will be making its way to the streaming service.

In the suspense thriller, Seyfried, who will also serve as an executive producer on the series, will take on the role of Mickey, a Philadelphia police officer patrolling a neighborhood hit hard by the opioid crisis.

“When a series of murders begins in the neighborhood, Mickey realizes that her personal history might be related to the case,” the official synopsis explains.

Nicholas Pinnock (The Book of Clarence, Top Boy, For Life) is also part of the cast, playing the role of Truman Dawes.

The limited series from Sony Pictures Television and UCP, a division of Universal Studios Group, will also take a fresh look at the impact of trauma and the response of a community.

Long Bright River tells a story about the collective power of an underserved community," series creators and executive producers Liz Moore and Nikki Toscano said in a statement from Peacock. "We are thrilled that Amanda Seyfried will lead this series about how those initially perceived as victims can band together to regain their power. Moore's family history and her work with harm-reduction and community-service organizations in Philadelphia informed the series, which aims to portray with compassion the lives of those struggling with addiction and the family members who love them.”

Moore and Toscano, who previously served as executive producer on The Offer and Hunters, will write the limited series as well.

The first episode will be directed by Hagar Ben-Asher, who's also serving as an executive producer. Other executive producers on the series include Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Amanda Lewis, all from Original Film, and Amy Pascal from Pascal Pictures.

Seyfried, who many may recognize from her past roles in The Dropout, Mean Girls, and Mamma Mia!, was spotted in Philadelphia in January doing a ride along with police to help prepare for the role, according to local NBC affiliate WCAU.

The actress was seen smiling in photos, alongside Moore and officers from the 26th Police District, in a series of images the department posted to Facebook.

Seyfried is no stranger to the thriller genre. She also starred in 2020’s You Should Have Left alongside Kevin Bacon and 2022’s Things Seen & Heard, about an artist who begins to question her marriage. She won an Emmy Award in 2022 for her portrayal of Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout.

There’s no word yet on a premiere date for Long Bright River.
