Rotations

Julio Le Parc Argentine

Not on view

Rotations (1959) is part of a series of gouaches that Le Parc produces upon his arrival in Paris in 1958. These intimate yet methodic studies of line, sequence, and surface signal a radical departure in his work. Le Parc expands his interest in concrete abstraction by incorporating the concept of movement through variations, sequences, or cinematic progressions that optically engage the eye. This seminal body of work, which remained unseen until recently, anticipates Le Parc’s role as a pioneering Kinetic artist during the 1960s.
