Dark Elf Starter Guide
The Dark Elves; from cave to sunlight.
Your journey through the first 10 Levels.
This walkthrough serves as a guide to finding your way through the Dark Elf starter town quickly and should allow you to find your own adventure along the way.
The path of this class is not a gentle one, nor should it be. Having been defeated by the Humans, the Dark Elf turned to Black Magic to give them an edge. Born out of necessity, a love for the wicked underbelly of Aden, the teachings of Gran Kain and the Shilen prepare them for what lay ahead.
Their appearance is similar to that of Elves. However, due to the taint of the black magic, they have dark blue skin and silver or white hair and a bit taller than the ‘light’ Elves.

Your journey as a Dark Elf will begin in the Temple of Shilen, a small, underground structure with a magnificent statue and helpful guides awaiting your arrival.
You will be located due East of the Dark Elven Village, commonly known as DEV.
Regardless or your class, fighter or mage, you are offered the same initial tutorial. We recommend you walk through this short Quest, for not only does it give you some basics of the commands and interface, it provides you with a World Map, something that generally costs 560 adena, and is not provided to all races.
Note: The World Map is no longer available as an inventory item. You can access the World Map at any time by clicking on the Map icon.
Start by double-clicking the nearest Celebrant and a dialog box will open assigning your quest to collect 4 Fangs from the various foxes in the area. This is the only quest that will work this way, in your future quests, scroll down to see the Quest link in their text box.
Once you’ve collected the fangs, return and get the vial of blood you will turn in to receive the map from Mitraell.
Path of a Fighter
The path of a Dark Elf fighter initially, is comparable to their light elf counterpart. You have very good damage potential but sacrifice healing skills that the Human and Orc races get ( relax skill ). This serves to balance the world, as we cannot all have dark elf assassins plundering the landscape now could we?
You will start with 2 weapons, a dagger and Squire sword ( short sword ) as well as a top and bottom armor piece. Double-click or right-click to equip them. The advantage of a dagger is it's speed, very fast with slightly lower damage, or fast, if you choose sword or blunt. (The powerstrike skill you may train at level 5 allows for either weapontype). Both weapons pack enough punch to get you through the first few quests.
Much opinion is bantered back and forth about run style and speed. The dark elf is one of the fastest races in the realm, but has a hunched over Anime appearance. It’s a love/hate relationship, simply a matter of preference.
I have the Map! Now what?
Congratulations, we can now, with the aid of that map, get you to your destination. We recommend you continue killing the small vermin** about the area, allowing you to become familiar with the combat mechanics and basic controls.
Once you reach your fifth level as a fighter, you can train for your special skills at a Trainer.
No, no Relax skill for you, but now it’s time to pick your damage delivery method. Your first weapon styles open to you, Dagger being the Mortal Blow path ( they call it Mortal Blow for good reason! ) This attack is meant to be used from behind your target. It has a very, very low chance of hitting from in front of the target, so if tactical attacks are not your thing, you would opt for the sword skill Powerstrike. This is an anytime, front/back/side attack which does significantly less damage than Mortal Blow, but lands every time.
--The way you con or consider: a monster’s toughness in relation to your level is by color of their name once selected. (You can identify a monsters difficulty rating by the color of their name when you select them. This difficulty is based on the monsters level in comparison to your own)
- dark blue : Don’t waste your time, dead if you break wind in the area, and little to no return of experience or skill points (sp). Think rabbit hunting, with a rocket launcher.
- light blue : Easy to kill, small return of xp/sp, and decent coin and loot.
- green : Still fairly easy to kill, good return on xp/sp, nice loot.
- white : within 2 or 3 levels of you, could be a challenge, nice return on xp/sp, loot.
- yellow : may be hard to bring down alone, very nice return on xp/sp and loot.
- pink : time to find a group, or you may die.
- red/dark red : red means danger, great risk and reward, very, very difficult alone, best to attack with a group.
We’ve seen a majority of players stick to light blue and green monsters to develop a sizable coin purse to assist you with your equipment needs.
For more detailed information on items, be sure to take a look through the databases linked on the left.
Path of a Mage... or I have the Map too! Now what?
A dark elf mage does more damage than their human or light elf counterparts, but will regain MP at a lower rate. The dark elf mage, like other races can do significant damage very quickly but cannot withstand it without special armor or “buff” spells. The same holds true for the light elf, but for durability the orc or human can withstand a more physical attack. The mage receives a wand and 2 pieces of armor to start. You can however, equip a shield when only wielding a one-handed wand or spell book. A staff is a two-handed weapon which boosts your magic attack somewhat at the sacrifice of added defense.
Level 7 Mage
Frozen Imp anyone? As a young mage, at level 7 your skill tree opens to reveal 3 main spell paths of attack. Your Wind, Ice and Poison or Damage over Time (DoT) spells, as well as some very handy healing/buffing ones. This can be a confusing choice, but worry not, you will have enough points by the time you are 20 to have trained some in all of the lines, to fit your personal play style. There is a also another fast start guide , that will explain in better detail the fastest path.
Everyone loves a healer, so even if your plans are to be A Goddess of Destruction and Pain, you have enough points to try healing and buffing as well. Regarding healing, initially it may seem that you cannot cast these beneficial spells unto yourself, but there is a way. To target yourself, which you may have noticed by now, isn’t possible by simply clicking on your character. Instead, simply click on your name in the box in the upper left corner of the screen. This will allow you to buff yourself, or use the target other Heal spell.
Starter Quests
One of your most beneficial starter quests is the Deliver this FedEx Package, ok it’s not really called that, but it is your typical delivery quest.
This quest has the dual benefit of showing you where some key NPCs are located, and provide you with experience and your first small healing potion. I drink these like a fish needs water since I can’t stand sitting for too long, but that’s just me.
How to earn a living in Lineage 2
The money falls like rain, really it does. I know you may have looked in the shop at all the pricey shiny goodies in there and fainted at their cost, I know I did, fortunately however, many of the quests that provide income, are repeated, some infinitely, it just takes time and a healthy attitude toward competition with your realm mates.
I will include one of the basic ones that is very close to home next.
Dark Bezoars
Pick it up from Sentinal Nelysa at the western exit.
This quest is not repeatable, however not only does it provided coin, but usually gives enough experience to gain a level as well!
Your Weapon Quest – Eldritch Dagger (Fighter or Mage). This quest is available for both professions, and even as a mage we recommend it. Even if you do not use it, it sells for over 12,000 adena back to the weapon shop.
At level 10 see the NPC Tetrarch Thifiell at the top of the stairs in DEV. He will assign your tasks. The quest requires some running, so you may want to pick up a haste potion and scroll of recall to shorten the trip.
Your life as a dark elf can be very enjoyable, it’s one of the most challenging and dynamic classes available.
