On Monday, Xavi was presented as Barcelona manager to an excitable Camp Nou, who are buoyed with optimism over the Spaniard’s return.
Now, just days into the job, Xavi seems to be working on bringing two members of Pep Guardiola’s Champions League winning side back.
What’s the story?
Well, according to MARCA, Xavi could bring Lionel Messi back to Catalonia, in what would be a hugely popular move by the 41-year-old.
MARCA believe Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain career isn’t going to plan, and despite his fractured relationship with Barcelona President Joan Laporta, Xavi’s presence could lure him home.
If this happened, it would be truly special.
Elsewhere, UOL believe Dani Alves has scheduled a meeting with Barcelona over a potential return to the Camp Nou as well.
Both parties are interested in a January move, although an agreement still needs to be struck on the terms of the deal.
However, Alves is currently a free agent, so at least the Blaugrana won’t need to negotiate with a club.
Dani Alves and Lionel Messi can help Xavi succeed at Barcelona
What Barcelona are lacking right now is the DNA which took them to the pinnacle of club football under Guardiola.
The Catalans need to focus their energy on La Masia once again, and forget making anymore signings like Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann or Philippe Coutinho.
With Messi and Alves back, Xavi would have two players who get what the club is about, and also two players who were the best in their position for many, many years.
With experience like that on board, Xavi would have a great chance of success.
