Like the rest of us, Romeo Beckham is on a mission to dress like David Beckham

By now you've probably seen Beckham, Netflix's big docu-series casting a light on the rise and rise of our very own David Beckham. You haven't? Get on it. And sure, while there's loads of goal-scoring energy about it, there's also loads of really, really good fits from Beckham. It highlights Beckham's role as not just the number one football player in the country, or the heartthrob of the sport, but as a bonafide style god. All clingy vests and baggy cargos. Sarongs and chunky sliders. Gucci jackets straight off the catwalk, because the paps needed something good to pap, and Beckham was going to give it to them, in his own words (a reminder to watch the doc again).

And clearly Romeo Beckham, the middle son of David and Victoria, has taken note. Not only has he taken up his own career in football – he's on a one-year transfer deal from Inter Miami to Brentford B – but his own recent style choices are uncannily aligned with those of Beckham senior. This week he attended the screening of his dad's years-in-the-making series in Mayfair, London, and he vibed with his dad's Nineties and Noughties style.

Romeo turned up to the event, alongside the rest of the Beckham clan, wearing a Nutella brown Louis Vuitton suit, which comprised baggy slacks and a cropped jacket. But it was post-event when he properly got down with his dad's former style. Attending the after-party of the premiere, Romeo threw off the jacket and unveiled a torso-clinging camel-toned tank top, tucked artfully into the ballooning LV trousers. His buzzcut was akin to that of young Becks (he's admitted this move to a shaved lid is an intentional reference to his dad), while his amber-tinted, gold-framed sunglasses were a carbon copy of the Gucci and Louis Vuitton shades David would wear throughout the 2000s.

It was a nod to one of the most frequently used photographs of young Becks on throwback Instagram moodboard accounts like @90sanxiety and @cabmate. In the said image, Beckham rocks voluminous cargo trousers, a khaki green vest and a pair of honeyed shades, alongside Victoria in a white cami and skimpy white jeans. It epitomises their louche, dialled-back style in the early days of their relationship, that was stretched across the front pages of national papers. It was the blueprint for the early aughts way of dressing that in 2023 Gen Zers are trying to copy in TikTok videos. David Beckham will always be a style icon. But the best guy for copying it? Romeo Beckham, obviously.

Like father, like son.
