Lea Michele took on the sheer dress trend and won.
At the New York premiere of HBO Max’s new documentary, Spring Awakening: Those You’ve Known, the Glee actor wore a floor-skimming mesh Jason Wu dress and matching black earrings.
Michele, who was part of the original cast of the Tony Award–winning musical, is a major part of the new documentary, which also features a recording from the reunion concert in 2021 that benefited The Actors Fund.
At the premiere, Michele—who has been wearing short hair lately—opted for length with wavy extensions pulled into a tight low pony by hairstylist DJ Quintero. Makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez finished the look with a smoky eye and a matte pink lip.
The actor was photographed alongside her Spring Awakening costar, Jonathan Groff, at the event. According to Michele, their 15-year friendship is still going strong.
The 35-year-old shared clips of the documentary in which she says that she and Groff only grew closer after they left the Broadway musical. “Jonathan and I became so close. We were so intertwined,” she says.
At the time of the musical, Michele and Groff were 19 and 21, respectively, and enacting explicit scenes on stage every night.
“I think it would’ve been really impossible and just so challenging to have to tackle that material every night with someone that you don’t feel that safety and trust with,” she says in the documentary. “We had to be in love, and it just so happened that we met to do this show, but I feel like we would’ve met some way or another in life. Because we were meant to be in each other’s lives.”
Never one for boundaries, Lea Michele also shared that she once showed Groff her vagina after he admitted that he’d never seen one before. “I took a desk lamp…and showed him. That’s how close we are…. But I’ve never seen Jonathan naked. I’ve never seen his penis.” The more you know.
