February marks a time of observance across the Department of Defense to honor the contributions our African American Soldiers have made. This year’s #BlackHistoryMonth theme is “inspiring change,” and 188th Infantry Brigade, 1st Army Division East, is pleased to highlight Maj. Doniel Wade, Battalion Executive Officer for 3-395th Armor Regiment “Nighthawks”.

Maj. Wade is #inspiringchange in the 188th IN BDE by being an example of excellence and showing his Soldiers the importance of leadership.

“I am changing the environment,” said Maj. Wade. “Getting Soldiers to understand why we are here and what we are supposed to do. Letting them know that it’s not just about going out and OC/T’ing and evaluating, but it’s also to be prepared for any mission. The influence I get to offer as a leader on this is something that I am very proud of.”

Wade added his grandmother inspired change within him to become who he is today because he learned the value of service through her.

“My grandmother never owned a car, but she was never late to work,” said Wade. “These aspects that we learned from our grandparents, I saw that service and those values at a young age. She helped to instill in me the mindset that there’s something that I can offer the world that’s greater than excuses or a couple good deeds, but something of actual influence to my community and the people around me.”

Leaders like Maj. Wade continue to inspire positive change in the Ready Brigade through commitment, selfless service, and dedication to the organization. It is not about how you do things as Soldier, but the impact and change that you create in others to become better.
