As Miranda reprises her iconic Sex And The City suited look in And Just Like That... a look at the SECRET meaning behind the return of her androgynous styling

Miranda Hobbes stunned Sex And The City fans around the world when she came out as queer in the first season of reboot And Just Like That... in 2021.

The lawyer, played by Cynthia Nixon, cheated on her husband Steve with nonbinary comedian Ché Diaz, in what seemed to be a confirmation of her sexuality.

And while the move shocked many, dedicated fans of the show will recall many nods to her sexuality throughout the original series, with a storyline including her boss' belief that she was queer and talk of a lesbian kiss in her youth.

During these storylines, costume designer Patricia Field would add an androgynous touch to her stylings, with slick suits, crisp shirts and ties matching up with timings of a hint at the evolution of her sex life and preferences.

While Patricia failed to return to style And Just Like That..., on Thursday's episode of the show, history was repeating itself when Miranda appeared in a throwback-worthy slick suit, which superfans will recognise as a blast from the past.

Miranda's first lesbian storyline came in 1998's Season One, Episode Three, entitled Bay of Married Pigs, when Miranda attempts to get ahead at her law firm and allows her boss to set her up with Syd - who turns out to be a woman.

The duo attend a dinner party at the boss' home - under the guise of being a couple - and as they leave they attempt a kiss in an elevator, after which Miranda pulls away and confirms: 'Yep, definitely straight.'

During the episode, Miranda is once again clad in a suited look.

This time, a black suit with a blue shirt and a red tie, which matched her red lip to add a feminine touch and a clash against her red hair.

Meanwhile, in 1999's Season Two, Episode Six, The Cheating Curve, the group discuss Charlotte experimenting with women.

Miranda says: 'I was a major lesbian in the fourth grade, Wendy Kirsten, we kissed, it was nice'. Later in the episode she is seen a slick suit.

While her job as a lawyer certainly plays a part in her styling, it is undoubted that the androgynous style is married to moments in the show when she discusses her sexuality - something Thursday's episode confirmed.

As she visits an apartment alongside Carrie, Miranda sports a stunning suit with a silk shirt underneath as she continues the throes of her battle with romance having recently split up with Ché.

Patricia spoke in the past about styling Miranda, saying in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: 'Miranda was the least self-consciously fashionable character in Sex and the City because she had other values...

'That was important, because these characters had to be real, believable, identifiable. A lot of times people would say, “She dresses the worst.”..

'But that was her character. Through the course of the series, we got better and better at creating her look without abandoning her integrity.'

In 2021, Patricia slammed Cynthia over her fashion demands when asked about her former assistant Molly Rogers' work styling the cast on HBO Max's And Just Like That.

The Oscar nominee didn't mince her words when she admitted she 'liked some of it, but not all of it', adding 'but I know what Molly's dealing with' during a recent interview with the Sunday Times.

Doubling down, she said: 'I know those gals! Sarah Jessica [Parker] thinks she knows everything - and she does. Cynthia Nixon thinks she knows everything - and she doesn't! Even today, when I speak with Molly, it's about Cynthia. I say, "I remember what you are going through."

Cynthia starred in the original Sex And The City series with Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis, as Samantha Jones, Carrie Bradshaw and Charlotte York respectively.

Since hitting screens in 1998, the show ran for 94 episodes across six seasons up until 2004, returned for two movies in 2008 and 2010, and has made a comeback with its reboot And Just Like That... in 2021.

Kim refused to return to the show due to a reported row with Sarah yet has reportedly filmed a small cameo away from her co-stars.
