Daphne Guinness: "I'll eat when I'm dead"

(CBS) Heiress and fashion icon Daphne Guinness is the subject of a profile in this week's The New Yorker, in which she displayed her affinity for style over comfort.

The article describes Guinness at a David-Bowie inspired photo shoot, where she didn't mind taking pains to look original:

"To incarnate Ziggy Stardust, she let a stylist place an enormous metallic collar around her neck; the stylist apologized for any discomfort. "Are you kidding?" Guinness replied. 'Uncomfortable is the name of the game.'"

During the same shoot, she also declined to mix food and fashion, according to the article:

"Teresa Alfonso, Guinness's personal assistant, tried to get her to eat some of the pasta that had been prepared for the production team. 'If I eat, I can't work,' Guinness, who had been subsisting on Red Bull and Ensure, said, 'I'll eat when I'm dead.'"

Guinness is the subject of an exhibition at the Museum at F.I.T., featuring clothes and accessories from her personal collection. The exhibit, which includes designs from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Azzedine Alaia, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, John Galliano for Christian Dior and Valentino, will be on display until Jan. 7, 2012.
