ESPN recruited Latin Grammy-winning Peruvian artist Gian Marco Zignago for its anthem for the 2019 Pan American games, to be held in Lima this summer.
“El Triunfo Es Mi Destino” (Triumph Is My destiny)” is premiering on Billboard today (April 22) alongside a video featuring Peruvian landscapes and animated scenes of athletes participating in game events. The anthem kicks off the sports network’s XVII Pan American Games campaign.
“This song is based on the dreams, yearnings, and feelings of an athlete,” says the singer-songwriter, who says his ballad — accented with Latin urban rhythms — is meant to serve as inspiration for those from the Americas who participate in the multi-sport games, held every four years.
