Jose Francisco de San Martín was born on 25 February 1778 in Yapeyu, Corrientes Argentina.

He was an Argentine general and the first leader of South American’s successful struggle for independence.

One of the most important events of his life was when the crossed the Andes. The crossing of the Andes began on January 12, 1817 in the direction of Chile.

San Martin used as a strategy divided his troops to go to toward Chile through various border crossings; it pretended to distract the Chilean forces. The trip was really epic because he not only crossed one of the highest mountains in the world but also did so in a totally extreme desert conditions.

He was a very intelligent, strong, agile, solid, responsible person. He was a great strategist.

I chose him because I think he was the person responsible for the independence of my country.
