4. Discuss the features of Chlamydomonas.

1. Chlamydomonas: It is a unicellular, biflagellate green algae found in soil, ponds and ditches.
2. The cells of Chlamydomonas are more or less oval and has a non-cellulosic membrane known as theca, a stigma or eyespot and cup- shaped chloroplast.
3. The cell is surrounded by a thin cell wall made of cellulose.
4. Chlamydomonas has a pair of flagella that helps in locomotion.
5. The cell contains a large dark nucleus lying within the cavity of the chloroplast.
6. They perform sexual and asexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction by gametes formation and Asexual reproduction is by zoospores.
