Julio Le Parc was born in Mendoza, Argentina. At thirteen he moved with his mother and siblings to Buenos Aires. He attended the School of Fine Arts and showed a growing interest in the artistic avant-garde movement in Argentina. In 1960, two years after his arrival in France, Le Parc, along with Francisco Sobrino, Horacio Garcia Rossi, François Morellet, Yvaral, and Joël Stein formed the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visual or G.R.A.V.
A precursor of kinetic art, Op Art, and the light and space movement, a founding member of G.R.A.V. and the recipient of the Painting Prize at the 33rd Venice Biennale in 1966, Le Parc is an important figure in the history of contemporary art.

He has participated in the Biennale de Paris, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, France, 1963; 32 Venice Biennale, 1964; 2nd Bienal de La Habana, 1986; and the 1st Bienal de Cuenca, Ecuador, 1987.
