Definitions

  • PROCEDURE SYSTEM AND PRODUCT OF COMPUTER PROGRAM TO OBTAIN AT LEAST ONE IMAGE OF THE EYE RETINA
  • the present invention relates to a method of obtaining at least one image of the retina of an eye. More specifically, the invention relates to a method for obtaining high resolution images of the retina of an eye, for which it is necessary to overcome the degradation induced by the optical aberrations of the light beams emanating from the eye. The invention also relates to a system and a computer program product for obtaining images of the retina of an eye, suitable for carrying out this procedure.
  • the invention is applicable to the optical, optoelectronic, optometry and ophthalmic instrumentation sectors. More specifically, it is applicable to those sectors in which it is required to overcome the degradation induced by the optical aberrations of the light beams produced by the propagation of light through an eye, for example, human.
  • Obtaining images (eg, high resolution images) of the retina of an eye involves techniques that allow the correction of image degradation induced by aberrations present in an eye, for example, human. These aberrations have a low-order component that is described by Zernike polynomials of up to grade 2, and high-order aberrations described by Zernike polynomials of grade greater than 2.
  • the ocular aberrations also have temporal variation so that a static correction of The aberrations would provide high resolution images only at certain times.
  • a first technique refers to "Adaptive Optics" [RK Tyson, Principles of Adaptive Optics (Academic, San Diego, Calif., 1991)].
  • This purely optical technique consists in using certain optical devices, such as deformable mirrors or spatial light modulators, which allow to introduce in a controlled way optical path differences between the different parts of the wavefront with aberrations, in order to get a wave front without aberrations.
  • the optical path to be corrected is determined by the use of a wavefront sensor that allows the aberration to be measured for subsequent correction by a specific optical device.
  • This purely computational technique starts from considering that the registered image is the result of the convolution of the impulse response of the system with the geometric image of the object provided by the optical system used. Using iterative, genetic or hybrid algorithms, this technique manages to find the shape of the impulse response of the system and thus obtain an image without degradation. As it is a purely computational technique, it is very sensitive to the signal-to-noise ratio of the image as well as to the hypotheses about the image formation and the image search algorithms without degrading implemented. The main drawback of this technique is based on the fact that it requires an iterative algorithm to correct the images, which implies an important time investment.

This invention is limited by considering that the proposal serves to extend the focus range in people with a reduced accommodation range.

ESTADO DE LA TÉCNICA STATE OF THE TECHNIQUE
Obtaining images (eg, high resolution images) of the retina of an eye involves techniques that allow the correction of image degradation induced by aberrations present in an eye, for example, human. These aberrations have a low-order component that is described by Zernike polynomials of up to grade 2, and high-order aberrations described by Zernike polynomials of grade greater than 2. The ocular aberrations also have temporal variation so that a static correction of The aberrations would provide high resolution images only at certain times.
At present, several techniques for obtaining high resolution images of the retina of an eye are known. The most relevant are described below.
A: Puré Appl. Opt., 7 (2005), p. 585]. A first technique refers to "Adaptive Optics" [RK Tyson, Principles of Adaptive Optics (Academic, San Diego, Calif., 1991)]. This purely optical technique consists in using certain optical devices, such as deformable mirrors or spatial light modulators, which allow to introduce in a controlled way optical path differences between the different parts of the wavefront with aberrations, in order to get a wave front without aberrations. The optical path to be corrected is determined by the use of a wavefront sensor that allows the aberration to be measured for subsequent correction by a specific optical device. This technique has been used both in astronomy and to obtain images of the retina and has been incorporated into both retinographs and confocal ophthalmoscopes, and optical coherence tomographs, among other ophthalmic systems. Although this is a successful technique to obtain high-resolution images of the retina of an eye, the main drawback is the fact that it is an expensive technique and of high technical complexity. A second technique used to obtain high-resolution images of the retina is the "Blind Deconvolution" technique (in English, Blind Deconvolution) [V. Nourrit et al., "Blind deconvolution for high-resolution confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy" J. Opt. A: Puree Appl. Opt., 7 (2005), p. 585]. This purely computational technique starts from considering that the registered image is the result of the convolution of the impulse response of the system with the geometric image of the object provided by the optical system used.
There is also a third technique known as "Deconvolution after partial correction and wavefront measurement" [J. Arines, "Partially compensated deconvolution from wavefront sensing images of the eye fundus", Optics Communications, Volume 284, Issue 6, p. 1548-1552]. This technique is a hybrid technique, since it has an optical part in which the static aberrations of the subject's eye are corrected with the intervention of a personalized phase sheet and residual dynamic aberration is measured by means of a wavefront sensor. This information is used to compute the impulse response of the system at the moment in which the retinal image is acquired which by means of deconvolution processes allows obtaining a retina image without degrading. In this case, this technique is among the techniques described above in terms of complexity and cost of materials required for its execution. In addition, the last two techniques described "Blind Deconvolution" and "Deconvolution after partial correction and wavefront measurement" (obviously two techniques based on deconvolution) also have the disadvantage that they are strongly affected by noise in the images obtained from the retina of one eye. Another hybrid technique, which has not yet been tested for high-resolution imaging of a subject's retina, is "Wavefront Coding" (ER Dowski and WT Cathey, "Extended depth of field through Wavefront Coding, "Appl. Opt. 34, 1859-1866 (1995)]. This technique is based on modifying the wavefront in such a way that the optical transfer function of the system is significantly more invariant to changes in the shape of the aberrated front than without its use. This invariance is manifested in such a way that the image of the observed object depends little on the aberrations present in the system and therefore the same impulse response of the system allows to restore degradations caused by very different wave fronts. The "Wavefront Coding" systems involve: an optical system, a phase coding element, an image recording system, and a decoder that is responsible for restoring the degraded image.
Esta referencia presenta las siguientes limitaciones: In US Patent US7260251, entitled "Systems and methods for minimizing aberrating effects in imaging systems", a system is described that exploits the technique of "Wavefront Coding" to reduce the effect of aberrations introduced by an intermediate means. In US patent document US7583442, entitled "Extended depth of field optical systems", an optical system with an increased depth of focus is presented which uses the concept of "Wavefront Coding" for this purpose. Basically, the document describes a system and method for obtaining an optical system almost invariant to blur errors, which is characterized by an ambiguity function and an impulse response function. This patent focuses solely on aberrations of the blur type.
This invention is limited by considering that the proposal serves to extend the focus range in people with a reduced accommodation range.
Finalmente, en el documento [E. R. Dowski and G. E. Johnson, "Wavefront coding: a modern method of achieving high-performance and/or low-cost imaging systems," Proc. Basically, the document gives as an example an iris identification system and a fingerprint identification system in which the iris and finger are out of focus and thanks to the system using the technique of "Wavefront Coding" can get images good enough to identify the person.
DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA INVENCIÓN DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Therefore, there is a need for new procedures, computer program products and systems to obtain at least one image of the retina of an eye, which solve at least some of the aforementioned problems. It is an objective of the present invention to satisfy said need. This objective is achieved by providing a system to obtain at least one image, for example of high resolution, of the retina of an eye, comprising:
- un sub-sistema adaptado para reducir la magnitud del astigmatismo presente en al menos un haz de luz proveniente de la retina del ojo; - un sub-sistema adaptado para codificar el haz de luz proveniente de la retina del ojo; - a sub-system adapted to reduce the magnitude of astigmatism present in at least one beam of light from the retina of the eye; - a sub-system adapted to encode the beam of light from the eye's retina;
- un sub-sistema adaptado para convertir el haz de luz codificado en una imagen codificada; - a sub-system adapted to convert the encoded beam of light into an encoded image;
- a sub-system adapted to decode the encoded image of the eye's retina.
Thus, with the provision of the sub-system for reducing the magnitude of astigmatism, it is possible to reduce the magnitude of the aberrations present in the beam of light coming from the eye and thus use the same sub-coding system and the same sub- decoding system for a wide variety of light beams, with a wide range of variation in the magnitude of astigmatism aberrations. Thus, a substantially invariant system response to the aberrations present in the light beam is achieved.
Without the presence of the astigmatism magnitude sub-system, the coding subsystem should introduce a coding in the beam of light coming from the eye that depended on the magnitude of the same. This strategy would force to measure or determine theoretically or numerically the decoding sub-system for each of the possible encodings that were introduced in the light beam, and to store all the possible sub-decoding systems to choose in each case the one corresponding to the coding used at a certain time. The sub-system for reducing the magnitude of astigmatism (which may be of an optical nature) present in the beam of light from the eye may comprise at least one of the following elements (or a combination of them):
- al menos una lente esferotórica; - at least one spherical lens;
- al menos una lente esferocilíndrica; - al menos un espejo tórico; - al menos una pantalla de cristal líquido; - at least one spherocylindrical lens; - at least one toric mirror; - at least one liquid crystal display;
- al menos una lámina de fase; - at least one phase sheet;
- al menos un espejo deformable; - at least one deformable mirror;
The sub-system of coding the light beam (which can also be of an optical nature) is intended to modify the phase of the light beam so that the optical transfer function resulting from the combination of the system of the invention and the aberrations present in the light beam is substantially invariant to these aberrations, or to those present in the system itself. More specifically, this sub-system is responsible for coding the image captured from the retina through the coding of the light beam, during whose coding the image is blurred (through the light beam) so that it Blinding is substantially invariant to the aberrations present in the beam of light coming from the eye's retina. This light beam coding sub-system may comprise at least one of the following elements (or a combination thereof):
- al menos un espejo deformable; - at least one deformable mirror;
- al menos una pantalla de cristal líquido; - at least one liquid crystal display;
- al menos una lámina de fase; - at least one phase sheet;
- al menos un elemento dispersor; - al menos una máscara de transmitancia variable; - at least one dispersing element; - at least one variable transmittance mask;
- at least one sub-system of wavefront coding.
On the other hand, the sub-system for converting the encoded beam of light, into an encoded image, can be any radiation capture system that provides retinal images. Thus, for example, this sub-system may comprise at least one of the following elements (or a combination of them):
- al menos una cámara con objetivo; - at least one camera with lens;
- al menos un oftalmoscopio; - at least one ophthalmoscope;
- al menos un retinógrafo; - al menos una cámara Scheimpflug; - at least one retinograph; - at least one Scheimpflug camera;
- al menos un sistema de tomografía de coherencia óptica; - at least one optical coherence tomography system;
- al menos un sistema de microscopía confocal; - at least one confocal microscopy system;
- al menos un sistema de imagen polarimétrica; - al menos un sistema de angiografía; - at least one polarimetric imaging system; - at least one angiography system;
- al menos un sistema de retinografía monocromática; - at least one monochromatic retinography system;
- al menos un biomicroscopio; - at least one biomicroscope;
- al menos una lámpara de hendidura. - at least one slit lamp.
On the other hand, the decoding sub-system of the encoded image may comprise at least one restoration filter, such as a Wiener filter, and aims to undo the blurring generated by the sub-system of light beam coding, and the aberrations present in the beam of light. This decoding sub-system depends largely on the coding sub-system and is determined by theoretical calculation, optical simulation, or by the impulse response measurement of the system. Basically, this decoding sub-system of the coded image of the retina can comprise a restoration filter, for whose construction information is used concerning the sub-system of encoding the light beam.
According to an embodiment of the invention, the system may comprise an optical assembly arranged between the eye and a sub-system selected from the astigmatism reduction sub-system and the light beam coding sub-system, this assembly being adapted optical to direct the beam of light from the retina of the eye to the selected sub-system.
At this point it is important to point out that the arrangement of the sub-system of reduction of the magnitude of astigmatism and the sub-system of coding of the light beam within the system can be variant, that is, both the sub-system of reduction of the magnitude of astigmatism as a stage prior to the sub-system of light beam coding, as the other way around. Therefore, the arrangement of the optical assembly, if required, will be between the eye and the sub-system of reduction of the magnitude of astigmatism if it is arranged in the system as a stage prior to the sub-coding system of the beam of light, or will be between the eye and the sub-system of coding of the light beam in case it is arranged in the system as a stage prior to the sub-system for reducing the magnitude of astigmatism.
According to another embodiment, the system may comprise an optical assembly arranged between two sub-systems, one of which is the astigmatism reduction sub-system and the other is the light beam coding sub-system, this assembly being adapted optical to direct the beam of light from one sub-system to the other sub-system.
As previously mentioned, the arrangement in the system of both subsystems can be variant. For this reason, if the sub-system of reduction of the magnitude of astigmatism is arranged as a stage prior to the sub-system of encoding the light beam, this optical assembly, if required, will aim to direct the light beam from the sub-system for reducing the magnitude of astigmatism towards the sub-system for coding the light beam. On the contrary, if the light beam coding sub-system is arranged as a stage prior to the astigmatism magnitude reduction sub-system, this optical assembly will aim to direct the light beam from the light sub-system. coding of the light beam towards the subsystem reducing the magnitude of astigmatism.
According to yet another embodiment, the system may comprise an optical assembly arranged between a sub-system selected from between the astigmatism reduction sub-system and the light beam coding sub-system, and the conversion sub-system , this optical assembly being adapted to direct the light beam from the selected subsystem to the conversion sub-system.
Again, the arrangement in the system of the astigmatism reduction sub-system and the light beam coding sub-system will mark the arrangement of this optical assembly, if required. Thus, if the astigmatism reduction sub-system is arranged as a stage prior to the light beam coding sub-system, this optical assembly may be arranged between the light beam coding sub-system and the sub-system. Of conversation. On the contrary, if the light beam coding sub-system is arranged as a stage prior to the astigmatism reduction sub-system, this optical assembly may be arranged between the astigmatism reduction sub-system and the sub-system. Of conversation.
On the other hand, the invention may comprise a sub-system (for example, of an optical nature) adapted to reduce blur aberrations present in the beam of light coming from the eye's retina, whose sub-system of aberration reduction of Blur can comprise at least one of the following elements (or a combination of them):
- al menos una lente esférica; - at least one spherical lens;
- al menos un espejo esférico; - al menos una pantalla de cristal líquido; - at least one spherical mirror; - at least one liquid crystal display;
- al menos una lámina de fase; - at least one phase sheet;
- al menos un sistema de Badal; - at least one Badal system;
- al menos un espejo deformable; - at least one deformable mirror;
- al menos una lente sintonizable; - al menos un modulador espacial de luz; - at least one tunable lens; - at least one spatial light modulator;
- al menos una lente móvil. - at least one mobile lens.
The combination of the sub-system of reduction of the magnitude of astigmatism and the subsystem of reduction of the aberrations of blurring is suitable to further reduce the magnitude of the aberration present in the light beam and thus be able to use the same sub-system of coding of the light beam and the same decoding sub-system of the encoded image, for a wide variety of light beams with a wide range of variation in the magnitude of astigmatism and blur aberrations. Without the presence of these two sub-systems, the light beam coding sub-system should introduce an encoding in the incident beam that depended on the magnitude of the same. This strategy would force to measure or to determine theoretically or numerically the decoding subsystem of the encoded image for each of the possible encodings that are going to be introduced in the light beam, and to store all the possible sub-systems of decoding to choose in each case that corresponding to the coding used at a certain time. Thus, the incident beam of light in the system, that is, the one coming from the retina of the eye, is partially corrected in terms of astigmatism and blurring by means of the subsystem of reduction of the magnitude of astigmatism and the sub-system of reduction of the blur aberrations respectively, and encoded by the light beam coding sub-system, to achieve a response of the system according to the invention substantially invariant to the aberrations present in the light beam. This beam of light is collected by the sub-system of converting the encoded beam of light into an encoded image. The encoded image provided by this subsystem is subsequently decoded by the decoding sub-system.
Therefore, it is achieved that the decoding sub-system, once characterized, 5 is independent of the aberrations present in the beam of light coming from the retina and of the configurations of the sub-system of reduction of the magnitude of astigmatism and of the sub-system for reducing blur aberrations.
According to an embodiment of the invention, the system may comprise an optical assembly arranged between the eye and a sub-system selected from the astigmatism reduction system, the light beam coding system and the sub-system. -system for reducing blur aberrations, this optical assembly being adapted to direct the beam of light from the eye retina towards the selected subsystem.
The arrangement of these three sub-systems (the astigmatism reduction sub-system, the light beam coding sub-system and the blur aberration reduction sub-system) within the system can also be variant, as was the case with the combination of only two sub-systems (the astigmatism reduction sub-system and the light beam coding sub-system). Thus, according to the order in which these sub-systems are arranged within the system, this optical assembly, if required, could be arranged between:
• el ojo y el sub-sistema de reducción del astigmatismo; • the eye and the astigmatism reduction sub-system;
• el ojo y el sub-sistema de codificación del haz de luz; • the eye and the light beam coding sub-system;
• the eye and the sub-system for reducing blur aberrations.
On the other hand, the system may also comprise at least one optical assembly 25 arranged between two sub-systems selected from the astigmatism reduction sub-system, the light beam coding sub-system and the reduction sub-system of the blur aberrations, this optical assembly being adapted to direct the light beam from one sub-system to the other sub-system.
In this way, and again depending on the arrangement of the sub-systems within the system, a multitude of combinations can occur with this optical assembly. Thus, for example, if the first sub-system arranged within the system is the sub-system of astigmatism reduction, the optical assembly, if required, could be arranged between:
• the astigmatism reduction sub-system and the light beam coding sub-system; or «the astigmatism reduction sub-system and the blur aberration reduction system.
In the first case, another optical set (which may have a different configuration to the optical set) could also be arranged between the light beam coding sub-system and the blur aberration reduction sub-system, while in the second of the cases raised, this other optical set could be arranged between the sub-system for reducing blur aberrations and the sub-system for coding the light beam.
In case the first sub-system arranged within the system is the light beam coding sub-system, the optical assembly, if required, could be arranged between:
• the light beam coding sub-system and the blur aberration reduction system. In the first of the cases presented, another optical set (which may have a different configuration to the optical set) could also be arranged between the astigmatism reduction sub-system and the blur aberration reduction sub-system, while in the second of the cases raised, this other optical set could be arranged between the sub-system for reducing blur aberrations and the sub-system for reducing astigmatism.
Finalmente, si el primer sub-sistema dispuesto dentro del sistema es el sub-sistema de reducción de las aberraciones de desenfoque, el conjunto óptico, si es requerido, podría estar dispuesto entre: Finally, if the first sub-system arranged within the system is the sub-system for reducing blur aberrations, the optical assembly, if required, could be arranged between:
• the sub-system for reducing blur aberrations and the sub-system for coding the light beam; or • the sub-system for reducing blur aberrations and the sub-system for reducing astigmatism.
In the first case, another optical set (which may have a different configuration to the optical set) could also be arranged between the sub-system of light beam coding and the sub-system of astigmatism reduction, while in the second of the cases raised, this other optical set could be arranged between the astigmatism reduction sub-system and the light beam coding sub-system.
In addition, the system may comprise an optical assembly arranged between a sub-system selected from the astigmatism reduction sub-system, the light beam coding subsystem and the sub-system for reducing blur aberrations, and the Conversion sub-system, this optical assembly being adapted to direct the light beam from the selected sub-system to the conversion sub-system.

The system according to the invention can further comprise a sub-system adapted to illuminate the eye's retina, the light beam from the eye's retina being generated in response to the action of this lighting sub-system. The sub-lighting system may comprise a light beam generating system or a fluorescence generating system. In both cases, the final result is the generation of a beam of light from the eye's retina, which crosses it, which causes the image of the retina to be degraded by different aberrations present in the eye, whose aberrations can be dynamic and / or static of low and / or high order.
30 De acuerdo con un segundo aspecto, la invención proporciona un procedimiento para obtener al menos una imagen, por ejemplo de alta resolución, de la retina de un ojo, que comprende: - reducir la magnitud del astigmatismo presente en al menos un haz de luz proveniente de la retina del ojo; According to a second aspect, the invention provides a method for obtaining at least one image, for example of high resolution, of the retina of an eye, comprising: - reduce the magnitude of astigmatism present in at least one beam of light coming from the eye's retina;
- codificar el haz de luz proveniente de la retina del ojo; - encode the light beam coming from the eye's retina;
- convert the encoded beam of light into an encoded image; - decode the encoded image of the eye's retina.
In addition, the method may comprise reducing blur aberrations present in the beam of light from the eye's retina.
Thus, the procedure for obtaining at least one image of the retina of an eye may comprise collecting light from the eye and applying a correction of astigmatism and blur to eliminate or significantly reduce these aberrations produced by the eye; encode the resulting beam of light to obtain an image invariant to aberrations; capture the resulting radiation to convert it into an encoded image; and decode the encoded image to obtain an image of the retina of the eye, without aberrations. All this results in the possibility of obtaining high resolution images of the retina of one eye for different subjects with very different refractive errors.
DESCRIPCIÓN DETALLADA DE LA INVENCIÓN DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The description of a possible preferred embodiment of the invention will now be carried out, in which, as can be seen in Figure 1, the system 100 for obtaining high-resolution images of the retina of an eye 101 of, for example, a The subject may comprise a first optical assembly 103 which aims to capture at least one beam of light H emanating from the eye 101, this beam of light H being the result of illuminating the eye through a lighting sub-system 102. The illumination of the eye can be achieved, for example, by fluorescence or from the generation of a beam of light directed towards the retina of the eye. The beam of light H that comes from the retina of the eye (and from which its image will be obtained) presents a degradation of the image of the retina due to aberrations present in the eye, this degradation being generated when the beam of light H crosses the eye. These aberrations of the eye can be static and / or dynamic, of low and / or high order, and must be corrected.
The system 100 can also comprise, as the first tool to reduce the degradation of the image of the described retina, a sub-system 104 (which can be of an optical nature) adapted to reduce the magnitude of the astigmatism present in the light beam H from of the retina and that is generated in the beam of light H when passing through the eye 101. This beam of light H reaches this sub-system by the action of the first optical assembly 103, which directs the beam of light that it captures coming from the retina of the eye towards the subsystem of reduction of the magnitude of astigmatism. More specifically, in the present embodiment, the optical assembly 103 conjugates the plane of the pupil of the eye 101 with a plane in which the sub-system 104 for reducing the magnitude of the astigmatism present in the wavefront is located. At this point it is important to note that the modification of the phase in the plane of the pupil involves the coding of the image of the retina. In addition, the system 100 may also comprise a second optical assembly 105 adapted to direct the light beam from the astigmatism reduction sub-system 104, towards a light beam coding sub-system 106, which may also be of optical nature In this case, this second optical assembly 105 combines the image plane of the pupil of the eye 101 with the plane where the light beam coding subsystem 106 is located, responsible for encoding the wavefront to significantly increase the insensitivity of the optical transfer function (OTF) against variations in the wavefront.
On the other hand, the system may also comprise a third optical assembly 107 adapted to direct the light beam H from the light beam coding sub-system 106, to a sub-system 108 (which may be of an optical nature) of reduction of blur aberrations (as a second tool to reduce the degradation of the image of the retina due to aberrations present in the eye, as discussed above) also present in the beam of light H when passing through the eye. More specifically, this third optical assembly 107 aims to combine the image plane of the pupil of the eye with the sub-system 108 for reducing blur aberrations present in the wavefront.
The system 100 in accordance with the present preferred embodiment may further comprise a fourth optical assembly 109 adapted to direct the light beam H from the sub-system 108 for reducing blur aberrations, towards a light beam conversion subsystem 110 encoded, in an encoded image. More specifically, this fourth optical assembly 109 aims to direct the light beam H with the wavefront modified by the optical sub-systems and assemblies described above, towards the sub-system 1 10 of conversion of the coded light beam, into An encoded image.
Finally, the system may comprise a sub-system 11 of decoding the encoded image of the eye's retina, to computationally decode the encoded image.
Por consiguiente, el sistema 100 para obtener una imagen en alta resolución de la retina de un ojo puede comprender los siguientes elementos: Accordingly, the system 100 for obtaining a high resolution image of the retina of an eye may comprise the following elements:
• el primer conjunto óptico 103 adaptado para capturar al menos un haz de luz H que emana del ojo 101 y dirigirlo hacia el sub-sistema 104 de reducción de la magnitud de astigmatismo presente en el haz de luz H; • el sub-sistema 104 de reducción de la magnitud de astigmatismo; • the first optical assembly 103 adapted to capture at least one beam of light H emanating from the eye 101 and directing it towards the sub-system 104 for reducing the amount of astigmatism present in the beam of light H; • sub-system 104 for reducing the magnitude of astigmatism;
• el segundo conjunto óptico 105 adaptado para dirigir el haz de luz H proveniente del sub-sistema 104 de reducción del astigmatismo, hacia el sub-sistema 106 de codificación del haz de luz; • the second optical assembly 105 adapted to direct the light beam H from the astigmatism reduction sub-system 104, to the light beam coding sub-system 106;
• el sub-sistema 106 de codificación del haz de luz; • the light beam coding sub-system 106;
• el tercer conjunto óptico 107 adaptado para dirigir el haz de luz proveniente del sub-sistema 106 de codificación del haz de luz H, hacia el sub-sistema 108 de reducción de las aberraciones de desenfoque; • the third optical assembly 107 adapted to direct the light beam from the light beam coding sub-system 106, towards the sub-system 108 for reducing blur aberrations;
• el sub-sistema 108 de reducción de las aberraciones de desenfoque; • sub-system 108 for reducing blur aberrations;
• el cuarto conjunto óptico 109 adaptado para dirigir el haz de luz H proveniente del sub-sistema 108 de reducción de las aberraciones de desenfoque, hacia el subsistema 1 10 de conversión del haz de luz codificado, en una imagen codificada; • the fourth optical assembly 109 adapted to direct the beam of light H from the sub-system 108 for reducing blur aberrations, towards the subsystem 1 10 for converting the encoded beam of light, into an encoded image;
• el sub-sistema 110 de conversión del haz de luz codificado, en una imagen codificada; • the sub-system 110 for converting the encoded beam of light into an encoded image;
• the sub-system 11 1 for decoding the encoded image of the eye's retina.
At this point, it is important to note that the presence of optical assemblies 103, 105, 107, 109 is not always necessary. Thus, in one possible embodiment, the system may not comprise any of the described optical assemblies, in another embodiment it may comprise at least one of the described optical assemblies, while in another possible embodiment the system may comprise all of the described optical assemblies. .
Similarly, it is also important to note that the presence in the system 100 of the sub-system 108 for reducing blur aberrations is not always necessary, although its presence significantly improves the performance of the system by further reducing image degradation. of the retina produced by the aberrations present in the eye, and even in the system itself.

- at least one spatial light modulator. Figure 2 shows a schematic diagram of a possible embodiment of a subsystem 104 for reducing the magnitude of astigmatism. In this possible embodiment, the sub-system can comprise a pair of spherical lenses 200 201 mounted on two supports (not shown) that can rotate in solidarity and individually, as well as move longitudinally and transversely. With the rotation of one lens with respect to the other, different magnitudes of astigmatism are generated, while with the rotation of the set the astigmatism generated is oriented to the angle that suits.
The light beam coding sub-system 106 may also have any suitable configuration to achieve its objective within the system 100. Figure imgf000021_0001
On the other hand, the sub-system 108 for reducing blur aberrations can also have any suitable configuration to achieve its objective within the system 100. A possible embodiment of a sub-system 108 for reducing blur aberrations is shown in Figure 4. The embodiment, by way of example, represents a Badal system in which at least one beam of light H is passed through a mirror 400, a lens 401, a lens 404, and a set of two mirrors 402 and 403 that move in solidarity moving away or approaching the pair of lenses 401 and 404 in order to modify the vergence of the beam of light H coming from the retina of the eye at the exit of the lens 404 with respect to that presented at the entrance of the lens 401.
As regards the sub-system 110 for converting the encoded beam of light, into an encoded image, obviously it can also present any suitable configuration to achieve its objective within the system 100. Thus, for example, this sub- System 110 may comprise at least one of the following elements (or a combination thereof), which are described by way of non-limiting example:

Finalmente, una posible realización del sub-sistema 1 11 de decodificación de la imagen codificada puede implementarse mediante un filtro de Wiener: Finally, a possible embodiment of the decoding sub-system 11 of the encoded image can be implemented by means of a Wiener filter:
Figure imgf000022_0001
Figure imgf000022_0001
where i dec is the decoded image, iFFT is the Fourier transform, / is the spectrum of the encoded image, H dec is the Fourier transform of the decoder, H is the Fourier transform of the impulse response of the optical system set eye, O is the Fourier transform of the geometric image of the observed object, γ is the Wiener filter regularization parameter. It follows from the previous equation that the more similar H to H dec, the better the decoding will be and therefore the image will be of greater spatial resolution.
Figure 5 shows, by way of example, a possible embodiment of the system 100 of the invention comprising a sub-system 501 (which may correspond to the subsystem 104 of Figure 1) for reducing the magnitude of astigmatism, a sub- system 502 (which may correspond to sub-system 106 of Figure 1) for coding the light beam H, and a retinograph 500. More specifically, sub-system 501 for reducing the magnitude of astigmatism and the sub-system 502 encoding the light beam are integrated into the retinograph 500, so that these sub-systems 501, 502 are responsible for reducing the magnitude of the astigmatism of the incident front (i.e., the beam of light coming from the retina) in the retinograph and the coding of the resulting front to significantly increase the insensitivity of the optical transfer function to variations in the wavefront, while the retinograph 500 (which in turn is a sub-system 110 for converting the encoded beam of light , in an encoded image, that is, it is a radiation collection system) also comprises a sub-system 108 for reducing blur aberrations. The radiation captured by the retinograph 500 is, by way of example, decoded by a Wiener filter 503 (which corresponds to the sub-system 11 1 for decoding the encoded image). Figure 6 shows, by way of example, a possible preferred embodiment of the system 100 for obtaining a high resolution image of the retina of an eye, according to the invention. In this preferred embodiment, at least one beam of light H emanating from the eye (either by fluorescence or because the retina is "excited" by at least one suitable beam of light, in both cases by the sub-system of 102 illumination of the retina) is directed towards a mirror 601 (which may correspond to the first optical assembly 103 of Figure 1), which redirects the beam of light H towards a subsystem 600 (corresponding to the sub-system 108 of reduction of blur aberrations of Figure 1) of reduction of blur aberrations, which in this embodiment consists of a Badal system formed by elements 602, 603, 604, 605. The beam of light H from this sub- system 600 for reducing blur aberrations is propagated until it reaches a sub-system 606 for reducing the magnitude of astigmatism, which in this possible embodiment consists of a set of spherical lenses that can rotate independently to reduce the ma The astigmatism of the front that affects it. The light beam H, after passing through the sub-system 606 for reducing the magnitude of astigmatism, arrives directly at a sub-system 607 encoding the light beam H, which in this particular and exemplary embodiment consists of a sheet phase that introduces a cubic phase of 17 micrometers peak-valley. After passing through this sub-system 607, the light beam H crosses a diaphragm 608 and a pair of lenses located focus to focus (609 and 611) between which a field diaphragm 610 is placed. The pair of lenses 609, 61 one they conjugate the plane where the light beam coding sub-system 607 is located with the focusing lens 612, which image on the radiation capture sub-system 613 (which may correspond to the conversion sub-system 1 10 Figure 1) which in this particular embodiment is a CCD camera. Subsequently, the image is decoded by, and by way of example, a Wiener 614 filter (which may correspond to the sub-system 11 of decoding the encoded image, of Figure 1).
Figure 7 is intended to demonstrate the importance of the system according to the invention comprising the sub-system for reducing the magnitude of astigmatism and the sub-system for reducing the magnitude of the blur present in the wavefront. A series of images of the impulse response of the optical-eye system assembly are shown in Figure 7a when different eyes with different refractive errors are placed at the input.
Más concretamente, la Figura 7a1 esfera 0.32esf -1.40 cil; la Figura 7a2 -1.97 esf -1.40 cil; la Figura 7a3 +0.60 esf-4.42 cil; la Figura 7a4 -'.36 esf-0.38 cil. More specifically, Figure 7a1 sphere 0.32esf -1.40 cil; Figure 7a2 -1.97 sf -1.40 cyl; Figure 7a3 +0.60 esf-4.42 cil; Figure 7a4 - '. 36 esf-0.38 cil.
Figure 7b shows the decoder (which corresponds in this case to the impulse response of the system when these sub-systems do not alter the wavefront) that is used to decode the image and thus obtain the high resolution image . It can be seen that the similarity between the impulse response of the optical-eye system set and the decoder depends on the magnitude of the blur and astigmatism. In this way, it becomes necessary to have these sub-systems in order to reduce this magnitude and keep it within limits in which the impulse response and the decoder are similar. Ensuring this similarity is important to achieve a good decoding of the image. The temporary behavior of the system is shown in Figure 8. The temporal evolution of the impulse response of an eye with aberrations is presented in the upper row. The image of the retina degraded by aberrations is shown in the middle row. Decoded or restored images provided by a possible embodiment of the system according to the invention are shown in the bottom row. It can be seen that the proposed system can provide high resolution images in real time without changing the decoder even though the aberrations present in the patient's eye change. The images of the retina presented subtend an angle of 1.27 °. Figure 9 shows the impulse response associated with three different ocular aberrations, the fundus images degraded by said aberrations and the images provided by the proposed system. In all three cases the same decoder is used. The presented fundus images subtend an angle of 4.75 °.
