Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 2 2, 1907.
Application led April 13. 1906. Renewed December 14. 1906. Serial No. 342,856.
To au whom. t may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH T. HUGHEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at- VFrankfort, in the county of Herkimer, State of New York, have invented certain-new and useful Improvements in Games; and Il do hereby declare ,the following to be a full, clear. and exact description of thc1invention, such as it appertains to make and use the same.
s u '.llns invention relates to games, and more particularly to that class of games 1n whichaall is driven over the. surface of a board'or table, the object ol' the game being to drive the ball .ast the opponents goal.
The object of the invention is to'provide a simple construction which may be' attached to any ordinary form of table and which may be manufactured at a small cost. l
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the inventlon applied to a table. Fig. 2 is-a detail side elevation of one of the goals. Fig. 3 is a similarjview f one oi the end posts of the device, and Fig. 4 is a detail -view of a slightly-modified form of goal. Fig. 5 is a detailedperspectiveview of the tube for propelling the balls across the board or table to which thc device is applied. Referring to the drawings, tlie numeral 5 denotes a board or table to which my invention is applied, 6 the ball which is to be propelled over the surfaceof the board, and? the tubes through. which air is to be blown to propel'the ball 6. .uit opposite sides of the board. 5 are goals S.
Each of these goals is formed of a single piece" oi' Wire bent at opposite sides of its middle at rightangles, as at 9, and thence rearwardly, as at 10, at right angles to the.portions 9.
Parallel arms thus formed are bent de wn-- w ardly at right angles adjacent ltheir rear ends, as at 11, and t ence forwardlv at right angles, as at 12, the ortions 10 and 12 of each l)relation and in a comm on vertical plane. The portions 10 adjacent the ortions v11 are bent upwardly and thence wack upon themselves. as at 13, for a purpose to be hereinafter described.
Disposed adjacent each corner of the board 5 are corner-posts 14, the said corner-posts being mounted upona cl ampingplate formed ol spring metal and having a connecting` portion and spacedarms 16. In-'appljving the device to a board or 'table'it will be readilyunderstood that the portions 10 of each ofthe ber.
detachably engaged upon said goals rest upon the top of the board or table and the portions 12 lie against the under face thereof and that thc arm of each ofl the clamping-plates which carries the post 14 lies upon the top of the table, and the'other'arm rests against the .under side thereof. T he goals 8 and the clamping-plates being formed of spirng material, the said elements are securely held upon the table.
In order to prevent the ball 6 from leaving the table, I provide nets 17 of anyr suitable material, the said nets being provided at their ends with posts 18, which are engaged with. thecorresponding portions 13 of each of the goals, and the said nets being engaged around the posts 14.
From the foregoing. it will be seen that the invention maybe readily applied to any ordinary form of table and that it may be packed in a minimum space. The object of the game isto .drive'the ball past the opponents v oal.
In the orm of goal member shown in Fig. 4 a piece oi' Wire is bent at opposite sides of its middle, downwardly-and at right angles, as at 20, to form spaced parallel arms, which are secured at their lower ends to bases 21, which bases serve to support said goal mem- In this i'orm ofthe invention the ends of the nets are att-ached to the arms 20, as Will be readily understood.
What is claimed isl1. A device of the class described com engagement with a board or the like, and a net engaged at its-end withy said goal-members, and means detachably associated'with the board for engagement with the net intermediate its ends.
2. In a device'of the class described, the combina-tion witha board, ofa oal member board atopposite sides thereof, posts associated with said board at the corners thereof, ,andnets engaged with said posts .and havin their ends detachably engaged with sai goal members. f
3. In Aa device of the class described, the combination with a board, of goal members carried by the board, corner-posts detachably` associated with the board, and a net connected at its ends with said goal members and engaged around said comer-posts.'
4. Ina device of the class described, the combination with a board, of-goal members 1 vprising goal members arranged for clamping IOO IIO
