Wayner Attorney, Agent, or Firm-Snyder, Brown and Ramik [57] ABSTRACT An air outlet casing, comprising an oblong casing with at least one inlet to be connected to an air channel and a plurality of outlet openings divided over the length of the casing can be made simple and so that the air output as well as flow direction are adjustable by provision of a regulating member extending in longitudinal direction of the casing, said regulating member being adjustable relatively to the outlet openings, and being provided with flow channels opposing the outlet openings.
15 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures U.S. Patent Dec. 2, 1975 1 AIR OUTLET-CASING comprising an oblong casing with at least one inlet to be connected to an air channel and a plurality of outlet openings divided over the length of the casing.
Such air outlet casing is known.
The invention provides a simple air outlet casing of the above mentioned type, whereby the air quantity flowing out can be arranged by a regulating member extending in longitudinal direction of the casing, said regulating member being adjustable relatively to the outlet openings, and being provided with flow channels opposing the outlet openings.
The flow direction of the air flowing out can be adjusted'with the same regulating member if the regulating member is mounted swingably around its longitudi= nal axis in the casing.
In order to avoid or reduce the noise of air flowing out the regulating member is made preferably of a tube filled with foam material. A homogeneous division of the air flowing out over the length of the air outlet casing can be realized, if the inlet is mounted mainly in the middle of the length of the casing and in that a roofshaped air distributer is mounted in the casing opposite to the inlet.
The invention will be elucidated in the following description with reference to a drawing.
In the drawing:
FIG. 1 shows a side view partly broken away of a preferred embodiment of an air outlet casing according to the invention; I I
FIG. 2 shows a section over the line II-II of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 shows a same section as FIG. 2 whereby the regulating member is turned into another position.
The air outlet casing according to the invention comprises mainly an oblong casing 2 provided with a silencing lining 3, e.g. of rock or glass wool, said air outlet casing comprising an inlet 4 to be connected to an air channel and a plurality of outlet openings 7 divided over the length of the the casing 2, spaced at mutual distances a. The outlet openings 7 are provided in a half round bent plate 8 providing wall portion defining a recess R and extend in tangential direction over the half round bent part of the plae 8. The openings 7 are defined between spaced apart solid portions 8 of the plate 8. Concentric with said half round bent part of plate 8 a regulating member is mounted in the casing 2 swingably as well as slidably. Said regulating member 5 is made of a tube 1 l, e.g. of plastic filled with a silencing foam material 10, e.g. polystyrene foam. In said regulating member 5 radial flow channels 9 are provided at regular distances a, said flow channels 9 corresponding with the outlet openings 7. Below the regulating member 5 at both sides directing strips 13 are attached to the casing 2.
In FIG. 2, wherein the flow channels 9 are shown vertical, the air flows according to arrow 14 straight downwards, while in FIG. 3 with a position of the regulating member 5 swung out of the middle, the air is directed substantially horizontally according to arrow 15 by means of a directing strip 13.
By axial displacement of the regulating member 5 according to arrow 16 from the position as shown in FIG. 1, the flow section of the outlet openings 7 and therewith the air output can be reduced.
Adjustment of the regulating member 5 can take place by means of a key 12.
Opposite to the inlet 4, positioned in the middle of I the length of the casing 2, a roof-shaped air distributer 17 is provided for taking care that almost uniform overpressure relatively to the atmosphere is prevailing over the whole length of the casing, so that almost uniform air output flows through all outlet openings 7.
