1 Claim. (Cl. 46-120) The present invention relates to a new and improved mechanical toy comprising a resiliently mounted artical tree, with artificial foliage, adapted to support a toy cradle and baby detachably nestled within said foliage, whereby said cradle and baby may be rocked or swayed by said resiliently mounted tree, said tree operating in conjuntion with an ejector rod slidably and longitudinally mounted within said tree and engaging the under side of said cradle and projecting below the lower end of said tree, and whereby said cradle and baby may be ejected from said foliage when the tree is rocked violently.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved toy having improved means adapted to enact the wellknown nursery rhyme:
Rock-a-bye baby, in the tree top,
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock. When the bough bends, the cradle will fall, And down Will come baby, cradle, and alll Another object is to provide a new and improved toy of the character described, having a greatly simplied and economically produced and operated construction, and a maximum eiciency.
The improvement comprises the device disclosed in the drawings forming a part of the present application; in Which- Figure l is a partly broken top plan view of the toy; and
Figure 2 is a side elevation, partly in section.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 2 is used to designate a preferably elongated hollow base having an aperture 4 in the top near one end thereof, and a at strap spring 6 having one end secured within said base 2 and its free end terminating under the aperture 4.
An artificial tree 8, having a longitudinal central bore 9, is provided with radiating articial foliage 10 at the top thereof and with its lower end or base extended through the aperture 4 and secured to the free end of the spring 6 within the base 2, so that said tree 8 is resiliently supported and adapted to sway or rock.
Detachably nestled within the foliage 10 is a toy cradle 12 containing a toy baby 14, said cradle being provided on the bottom thereof with a bo-ss or knob 16 adapted to be detachably connected to the top of the tree 8. An ejector rod 20 slidably mounted longitudinally within the tree 8, is provided at its top end with a knob 16, resting against the bottom of the body 16 of the cradle 12, the lower end of said ejector being projected below the bottom of the tree 8 and free end of spring 6. A button 22 at the base of the tree 8 provides an actuating means.
In operation, a manipulator depresses the button 22 an-d quickly releases the same, which causes the dat spring 6 to oscillate and the top of the tree and foliage 10 to sway or rock substantially, so that when the wind blows the cradle will rock.
By suddenly depressing the button 22 to its full movement, the bottom of the ejector rod 20 will impact the projected end of the rod against the bottom of the base 2 and the top of said ejector will push the boss 16, cradle 12 and baby 14 apart from the Ifoliage 10 and tree 8 and down will come baby, cradle, and alll as predicted by the last line of the ancient nursery rhyme.
Having described my invention, I claim:
A mechanical toy comprising a hollow base having an aperture n one end of the top thereof; a flat spring secured at one end within said base and having a free end under said aperture; an artificial tree, with foliage, mounted upon said free end and projecting upwardly through said aperture; a toy cradle and a toy baby detachably nestled in said foliage; and an ejecting rod slidably mounted through said tree with the upper end of said rod resting against the bottom of said detachable cradle, and the bottom end of said ejecting rod extended below the bottom of said tree and below the free end of said at spring, and adapted, when said spring suiliciently is depressed, to impact the lower end of said rod against a surface below said base, and thereby move said rod to eject said cradle and baby from said foliage.
