Similarl letters of reference indicate corresponding parts' in both figures. s The object of this invention is to improve shot-cartridges by constrnctingm. their.` interior surfaces, between their ends, a number of corrugationsor shoulders, -and in combining.

In the accompanying drawing, -A represents 'a Ashot-shell, for a. breech-loading gun, Vwhich rugations, aia, are pressed into it at proper p distances apart, according to diierent charges-I which. it may be desired to use. The corrugations are annular and in planes at right angles tothe axis of the yshell, and are designed. to 4 ill enable others skilled in' the art'to underi afford shoulders for receiving the edge of the -wad b, which retains the shot in place.

Prior to-myinvention shot-shells were made.

Asmooth on theirinnersides, and in continual in bird-shooting) the' charge in the other barrel becomes loose from lthe jar and concussion and frequently' drops out of the barrel. Also, -in carrying-'shct-shells inthe belt the smooth shells. have vto bearranged bottom sido up, by doing which a great many are lost outof the belt.

These objections to the old shot-shell donot prevail with my improved shells, for theshoulders awill firmly-'hold in place the-wads which are last placed in the shells. i Iam aware that it is` not new with me to construct a corrugated Iball-cartridge; neither .isit new to secure a wad' in the vend of a cartridge by turning over the end. Ido not, \thereibre,.claim these Vfeatures broadly. My invention is not only for the purpose of holding the wad of la shot-cartridge'iirmly in place of permitting this to be done for charges varying in size.
