Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 16, 1916.
Application filed June 22', 1915. Serial No. 35,687.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that we,'KA VZB L R, a subject of the German Emperor, residmg at 12 Dusseldorf, Germany, and Cam. IVANINGER, a subject of the German lhnperor, residing at 128 Uerdingerstrasse. Dusseldorf, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Casemate-(iuns; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
\Vith casemate guns hitherto known positioned behind a straight casemate wall it was possible to direct the gun Within a horizontal angle of say 60. If it was desired to gain a horizontal range of larger extension it was necessary to mount a second gun behind a wall forming an angle with the first wall so that by the combined use of both guns at larger horizontal angle could be swept.
Our present invention has for its object to enable one single gun to sweep a relatively large horizontal range, and obtains this object by an arrangement by means of which the gun can be brought quickly from one embrasure of the wall to another. purpose the gun is mounted rotatably on a plate arranged behind the whole system and is further provided with a spherical mem-- ber adapted to close the embrasure and to be shifted on the gun barrel.
Au embodiment of our invention is shown in the accompanying drawing by Figure 1 in aside'elevation partly in section and by Fig. 2 in a plan view.
he gun barrel 0, is mounted in any known manner on a standard b pivotally connected with a plate 0. The plate 0 is provided at its rear end with a vertical pivot d project- For this the plate 0 is a further. plate a serving as platform for the squad and rotated around the axis (1 together with the whole gun.
If it is desired to turn the gun so as to bring it from the embrasure into the embrasure 1/ it will be necessary to disconnect the spherical member I). from the embrasure. This spherical closing member I). is shiftable on the gun barrel by means of ears i guided on rods Z; fastened on the cradle Z. In con sequence thereof the closing member can be withdrawn from the embrasure whereupon the whole gun can be turned around the axis (1 and brought before the embrasure g. The closing member I: is then shifted toward the embrasure g so as to close the latter.
Having thus described our invention What we claim is:
1. In a easemate gun the combination of a plate connected with the gun and rotatable around a vertical axis arranged behind the gun, and a member for closing an embrasure of the ca semate, said member being sliiftable on the gun barrel.
2. In a casemato gun the combination of a plate connected with the gun and rotatable around a vertical axis arranged behind the gun, and a spherical member for closing an embrasure of the casemate, said member be- FREDERICK HOYERMANN, BERNHARD GRIELING.
