WITEU @TATEd PATENT @hfiififl PERRY H. BAYLEY, OF WEST ALEXANDRIA, OHIO; MARY A. BAYLEY EXECUTRIX OF SAID PERRY H. BAYLEY, DECEASED.
GASEOUS-FUEL MIXER.
wearer.
S ecification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 18, 19115.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PERRY H. BAYLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vest Alexandria, in the county of Preble and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gaseous- Fuel Mixers, of which the following isa specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in mixers, and more particularly to mixers which are adapted for use in connection with intake pipes of carbureters, of motorcycles or automobiles.
An object of this invention is the provision of a mixing device for engagement in the. intake pipe of a carburetor, the device including a frame in which is mounted a pluralit of foraminated cones which will thoroug ly mix the particles of gasolene and air passing through the pipe.
Another ob ect of this invention is the provision of a mixer of this character which may be readily inserted into or removed from the intake pipe of a carburetor, and one which will be very efiicient in use.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the intake pipe of a carbureter showinmy improved device mountedtherein; an Fig. 2 is an end view of my device.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the intake pipe of 'a carburetor in which my improved mixer is mounted, the device comprising a plurality of spaced parallel bars 2 which frictionally engage the inner wall of the pipe. Connected to the opposite ends of the bars 2 are foraminated cones 3, the cones being secured to bars, with their apices opposed to each other and extending inwardly of the bars. Secured to the bars intermediate of their ends, is a pair of foraminated conesv 4, the edges of the bases of the cones being opposed and engaged against each other, so that the apices of the cones extend toward the oppo- 4 site ends of the bars.
The lowermost cone-3 is provided at the edge of its base with a radially extending apertures 6 therein, the flange being positioned between the meeting edges of the intake pipe 1 and the body 7 of the carburetor, the'intake pipe and the body of the carbureter also having laterally extending apertured lugs 8 at diametrically opposite points, the openings in the lugs 8 and the apertures 6 being adapted to-register to receive the bolts 9, whereby the meeting ends of the intake pipe and the body of the carbureter are secured together with the flange of the mixer interposed therebetween. It will be seen that before the flow of gasolene and air through the carburetercan pass into the cylinders of the engine, the same must pass through my improved attachment. In passing through the plurality of foraminated cones, the particles of gasolene and air are thoroughly mixed to provide athoroughly combustible mixture for the cylinders.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the character described, the combination with a fuel intake pipe, of a sectional fuel mixer arranged within the pipe, said mixer comprising a plurality of spaced elongated parallel bars adapted to frictionally engage against the inner face of the pipe, foraminated cones connected at the edges of their bases to the bars at their opposite ends, said cones being arranged with their apices extending inwardly of the bars, and a pair of foraminated cones connected at the edges of.their bases to the bars midway of their ends, the apices of the last mentioned cones extending outwardly of the bars whereby the same are opposed to the apices of the cones c afiried on the ends of the bars, said bars being of-suflicient length whereby the apices of the intermediate cones are spaced from the apices of the end cones, the lowermost cone-having its marginal portion provided with an annular flange adapted to be extended between adjacent extremities of the sectional intake pipe.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses. PERRY H. BAYLEY. Witnesses:
SHERMAN MILLS, E. J. HENRY.
