技术领域

背景技术
手翻书(kineograph)或翻页书(flip book)是在1897年由Linnet在GB189715668中获得专利,以作为一种使用图像的线性顺序的动画制作进行广告的手段。这些物体经常被用作奖品,例如在早餐谷物和CRACKER JACK盒中被发现且作为新奇的事物或者促销项目。

发明内容

本公开提供电活化聚合物致动器双凸透镜装置的各种实施例。在进入包含电活化聚合物致动器的各种双凸透镜装置的说明之前,本公开简要地转至图1,其提供一种可能以整体结合到本发明的光学系统中的电活化聚合物致动器的剖面图。因此,现在参考该模块10描述电活化聚合物致动器的一个实施例。
电活化聚合物致动器在通过高电压激励时使得输出板12(例如滑动表面)相对于固定板14(例如,固定表面)滑动。板12,14是采用钢球隔离,并具有强迫移动至所期望的方向、限制行程以及经受跌落测试的特征。为了整合成为光学系统,顶板12可以附接到惯性质量(inertial mass)诸如光学系统的显示单元上。在图1所示的实施例中,模块10的顶板12包括安装至惯性质量上的或者如以箭头16所示的能够双向移动的光学系统的背面上的滑动表面。在输出板12和固定板14之间,模块10包括至少一个电极18、可选配的至少分隔板(divider)11,以及附接到滑动表面例如顶板12的至少一部分或棒状物13。框架和分隔板区段15附接到固定表面,例如底板14。模块10可包括配置成阵列的任何数目的棒状物13以放大滑动表面的移动。模块10可以经由挠性电缆19耦合到致动器控制器电路的驱动电子设备。
电活化聚合物模块10的优点包括提供平滑运动,消耗明显较少的电池寿命,以及适合于可定制设计和性能选择。一种平的,小的且轻量形式因素是尤其适合于售点显示器和低姿态(low profile)的照明系统。模块10是由加利福尼亚州的桑尼维尔的Artificial Muscle公司所开发的致动器模块作代表。在本发明中,电子控制系统是用于提供透镜元件的平滑运动。这样的控制系统能够驱动致动器以一种程序化的方式移动以控制透镜元件相对于显示单元的定位。合适的电子控制系统例如公开于美国专利申请案公开号2009/0147340和2010/0033835中,其全文通过引用结合入本文。
仍参考图1,模块10的多数设计变量(例如厚度,印迹)可以通过模块积分器的需求来确定,而其它变量(如介电层的数目、操作电压)可能会受到成本的限制。因为致动器几何形状(印迹到刚性支撑结构相对于活性介电质的配置)并未大幅地影响成本,所以将模块10的性能设计成其中模块10与光学器件集成的应用是一种合理的方法。
图2是致动器系统20的一个实施例的示意图,用于说明操作原理。致动器系统20包括显示为低压直流电(DC)电池的电源22,其电耦合到致动器模块21。致动器模块21包括设置(例如,夹在其间)在两个导电电极24A、24B之间的薄弹性介电质26。在一个实施例中,导电电极24A、24B是可伸展的(例如,整合的或顺应的)并且可通过使用任何合适的技术,诸如例如丝网印刷,印制到弹性介电质26的上部和底部上。致动器模块21是通过闭合开关28从而使电池22耦合到致动器电路29而被启动的。致动器电路29将低DC电压VBatt转换成适合驱动模块21的高DC电压Vin。致动器电路29也可以包括电子元件,其包括微处理器、存储器和能够产生特定图案或者波形或者电压驱动信号以驱动致动器21的运动的信号产生器。当高电压Vin施加到导电电极24A,24B上时,弹性介电质26在静电压力下在垂直方向(V)上收缩而在水平方向(H)上伸展。可利用弹性介电质26的收缩和伸展作为运动。运动或位移量是与输入电压Vin成比例的。运动或位移可通过如下结合图3A、3B及3C所述致动器的适当配置而被放大。

图5图示出一种布置光学系统500的元件的现有技术方法。透镜502与原图504接触,原图504接触致动器506,致动器506接触壳体508。现有技术方法遭遇到一项问题,就是在透镜与原图之间的摩擦,连同诸如抖动或跳动动作以及迟滞的摩擦副产物。因为不需要使原图相对于透镜移动,所以在彼此完全接触时,总是将透镜设计成聚焦在原图上。
如本文所提及的,移动显示器导致摩擦问题;因此,本发明人在显示单元与透镜之间安置空隙(间隙)以消除摩擦。在图6中图示出了本发明的光学系统600的该实施例,其中透镜元件602与显示单元604没有接触,而是被间隙610隔开。电活化聚合物致动器606在显示单元604下方并且与壳体608接触。在原理上,透镜与显示单元之间的间隙可以是任何距离;但是应当记得的是间隙将需要透镜元件的焦距的改变确保其正确地聚焦在显示器上。间隙可以例如通过在透镜元件602和壳体608之间的间隙保持器(stand-off)而产生。这些间隙保持器可以是已知技术中的分隔片部件。它们也可以是模制成透镜元件602或壳体608。可替换地,这些间隙保持器可包括能够调整该间隙的弹簧或伸缩式部件。

在任何情况下,主要反射器802被设计成用于实现在大部分可变方向上对光线的反射。例如,从光源806发出的光的至少半数是设计成首先入射到主要反射器812并朝所期望的方向被反射而不需要采用次要反射器以进行转向。次要反射器814是负责将在上部半球体背面中从光源806出射的光线向下转向至主要反射器812从而集中光线。根据该应用,可采用相对于主要反射器也是静止的一个第三反射器或多个反射器(未示出)以帮助重新导向来自光源的离散光线。在任何情况下,所产生的反射光线基本上是由由光源806所提供的所有可利用的光所组成。
通过以大于人眼可察觉的频率(即,>25Hz)操作分别在如图8A和8B所示的高和低位置之间(或在那之间的许多位置之间)的电活化聚合物致动器802,光源806相对于主要反射器812移动。到反射器环部的可变的焦距产生了改变所发射光的整体聚焦的能力。如所图示的,当光源处于“低”位置时,提供较宽的频带光线816,而当光源处于“高”位置时,提供较窄的频带光线818。

对于光源,根据所期望的照明效果,从属系统可采用任何类型的光源。例如,对于定向光可采用发光二极管(LED),而传统的白炽光可用于产生漫射光。短弧形高强度放电光源最接近点光源,因而易于用在本发明的高效率的照明系统中。
本发明的一些实施例中提供了一种采用具有LED光源(或其它光源)阵列的透镜堆叠作为显示器的发光或者照明系统。光源可发射相同或者不同颜色的光。在一些实施例中,显示器可包括设置在LED光源和透镜堆叠之间的荧光材料层。荧光材料层可以由LED所发出的光激发并发射不同颜色的光。荧光材料层可包括一种单一化学组分或者具有可发出不同颜色光的不同化学组分的区域。通过使透镜阵列关于LED光源阵列侧向地或横向地移动,从而改变用户察觉到的光的强度、聚焦以及光束方向。

如图10和11所图示的,电活化聚合物致动器允许该系统具有不同的运动状态。图10示出以不变速率朝两个运动方向移动的一个示例。图11示出以可变速率运动的一个示例,此处为迅速返回动作。图11中所描绘出的运动状况尤其有利于双凸透镜系统,在此致动器的前向运动可使观察者能够看到类似于视频剪辑的一连串的图像。致动器的迅速返回动作使得快速地返回到第一图像以重启该连串的图像,而无需观察者必须反向地看这该连串图像。所属领域技术人员将会明白有很多其它潜在的动作状况,其可能基于应用需求来给出,该应用需求包括其中致动器移动并保持在设定位置以保持透镜元件相对于显示器的固定位置的状况。该运动状况优选地与原图匹配以产生适当的所期望的视觉效果。
图12A,12B,12C图示出组装光学系统的步骤,在该实施例中,光学系统具有原图作为显示器。图12A描绘层压到移动板的原图(如图4中的406所示)。图12B示出将透镜元件放置在该原图上而留下间隙以避免摩擦和振动动作。图12C示出可能采用结合件例如螺栓实现固定的上盖的装配。

Claims (17)

1.一种光学系统,其包括:
透镜元件;
显示单元,其从该透镜元件横向地位移,所述显示单元包括显示器;
至少一个致动器,耦合到该透镜元件或该显示单元中的至少一个,且能够在横向方向相对于该显示单元改变该透镜元件的位置;以及
电子控制系统,能够驱动该至少一个致动器以一种程序化的方式移动从而控制相对于该显示单元的该透镜元件的定位。
2.根据权利要求1所述的光学系统,其还包括至少一个反射器。
3.根据权利要求1和2中的一个所述的光学系统,其还至少包括能够改变在该透镜元件和该显示单元之间的横向位移的第二致动器。
4.根据权利要求1到3中任一个所述的光学系统,其中该透镜元件包括多个透镜。
5.根据权利要求1到4中任一个所述的光学系统,其中该透镜元件包括双凸透镜。
6.根据权利要求5所述的光学系统,其中该显示器包括多个图像,其被整合以在透过该双凸透镜的不同位置观看时分别显现。
7.根据权利要求1至6中任一个所述的光学系统,其中该显示器包括光源阵列。
8.根据权利要求7所述的光学系统,其中该光源发射不同颜色的光。
9.根据权利要求7和8中任一个所述的光学系统,其中该显示器包括发光二极管(LED)光源阵列。
10.根据权利要求9所述的光学系统,其中该阵列激发荧光材料层以发射与该发光二极管(LED)光源所发出的光的颜色不同的光。
11.根据权利要求10所述的光学系统,其中该荧光材料层包括具有不同荧光组分的区域,以在被该发光二极管(LED)光源激发时发出不同颜色的光。
12.根据权利要求1至11中任一个所述的光学系统,其中该至少一个致动器的运动被编程成以选自于由不变速率、可变速率以及其组合所构成的群组中的一种速率,在该透镜元件相对于该显示单元的位置之间循环。
13.根据权利要求1至12中任一个所述的光学系统,其中该至少一个致动器的运动被编程为设定该透镜元件相对于该显示单元的固定位置。
14.根据权利要求6至13中任一个所述的光学系统,其中该至少一个致动器的运动可使用户能够观看到一序列的图像。
15.根据权利要求7至13中任一个所述的光学系统,其中该至少一个致动器的运动基于该光源阵列和该透镜元件的相对位置,提供包括该光源的不同颜色的光混合的照明。
16.根据权利要求1至15中任一个所述的光学系统,其中该至少一个致动器包括电活化聚合物致动器。
17.根据权利要求3至15中任一个所述的光学系统,其中该第二致动器包括电活化聚合物致动器。
